A new ITV adaptation of H. E. Bates’s 1958 novel stars Bradley Walsh and his son Barney, as well as Joanna Scanlan and Peter Davison. <\/p>

He\u2019s mastered time travel and beating the Chasers, now Bradley Walsh is about to showcase his latest project, a six-part comedy drama called The Larkins.<\/p>\n

If that name sounds familiar you might be thinking of the characters in\u00a0The Darling Buds of May, a classic \u201990s TV show starring\u00a0Catherine Zeta-Jones, Pam Ferris and David Jason. The Larkins takes the same family and breathes new life into them for a modern audience.<\/p>\n

Set in 1950s Kent and following the rural life of a working class family, the show\u00a0stars Walsh (alongside his son Barney Walsh<\/a>), Joanna Scanlan and Peter Davison, with lots of famous guest stars popping up along the way.<\/p>\n

When is The Larkins on TV?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

ITV has now confirmed a release date for the six-part series.<\/p>\n

Episode one of The Larkins will arrive on our screens on Sunday 10th October at 8pm\u00a0<\/strong>and is expected to air every Sunday night for six weeks.<\/p>\n

The Larkins cast: Who plays who?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Bradley Walsh<\/strong> plays Pop Larkin, taking on the role previously held by David Jason in the 1990s adaptation. When the casting was announced, Walsh said he was \u201cthrilled\u201d to be involved in the \u201cmuch loved and iconic series of stories,\u201d adding: \u201cThe warmth and affection that H. E. Bates has generated through his books is so uplifting and I cannot wait to be part of the Larkin family. It\u2019ll be a hoot!\u201d<\/p>\n

His wife Ma is played by The Thick of It star Joanna Scanlan<\/strong>, taking up the mantle from Pam Ferris.\u00a0Scanlan said: \u201cWhat better comfort could there be from all we have endured this year than the rolling laughter and outsize hugs of Ma and Pop? It\u2019s going to be an honour to help bring The Larkins to the nation\u2019s devices!\u201d<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s a real family affair as Bradley Walsh\u2019s son Barney Walsh<\/strong> will play village policeman PC Harness.<\/p>\n

Lovers Charley and Mariette will be played by Tok Stephen<\/strong> and Bridgerton<\/a> star Sabrina Bartlett<\/strong> (previously Philip Franks and Catherine Zeta-Jones) \u2013 and Bartlett described the series as the \u201cperfect dose of escapism we all need right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peter Davison<\/strong> has also joined the cast, playing the Vicar, while Robert Bathurst<\/strong> will play Johnny Delamere.<\/p>\n

Further stars include\u00a0Kriss Dosanjh<\/strong> (Brigadier), Amelia Bullmore<\/strong> (Miss Edith Pilchester), Seeta Indrani<\/strong> (Miss Chand), Stephen Hagan<\/strong> (Tom Fisher), Francesca Waterworth<\/strong> (Libby Fothergill), Tony Gardner<\/strong> (Alec Norman) and Selina Griffiths<\/strong> (Norma Norman).<\/p>\n

Other members of the Larkin family are played by\u00a0Lydia Page<\/strong> (Primrose Larkin), Liam Middleton<\/strong> (Montgomery Larkin), Lola Shepelev<\/strong> (Victoria Larkin), Davina Coleman<\/strong> (Zinnia Larkin) and Rosie Coleman<\/strong> (Petunia Larkin).<\/p>\n
