A new Red, White & Royal Blue sequel is officially in development at Amazon MGM Studios \u2013\u00a0and it will bring back heartthrobs Nicholas Galitzine<\/a> and Taylor Zakhar Perez.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The news was announced on Thursday (9th May) following a special screening of the film in Culver City, California.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cYes, there\u2019s going to be a sequel to the movie,\u201d confirmed director Matthew <\/span>L\u00f3pez<\/span> during the Q&A (via HELLO!<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMatthew and I are writing it together,\u00a0 that\u2019s all we can say,\u201d added Casey McQuiston, the author of the novel of the same name<\/a>, upon which Red, White & Royal Blue<\/a> is based.<\/span><\/p>\n Released last August, Red White & Royal Blue follows an unlikely romantic relationship between two people who have a total disdain for one another: <\/span>Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez), the son of the president of the United States (Uma Thurman), and Britain\u2019s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine).<\/span><\/p>\n [squirrel-affiliate-playlist squirrel_playlist_id=\u201d609\u2033 \/]<\/p>\n When the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an altercation between the two, their long-running feud only escalates, prompting their handlers to stage a truce between the two rivals.<\/span><\/p>\n What at first begins as a fake friendship soon grows into something more meaningful than the pair could ever have imagined.<\/span><\/p>\n The romcom was a resounding success, becoming the top-watched film worldwide for Amazon in its first three weeks of release.<\/span><\/p>\n Details of the sequel\u2019s plot are being kept firmly under wraps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> However, when asked what viewers can expect, L\u00f3pez added: \u201cWhat made this film what it is was that it was made with a lot of love and care, and we all had dog-eared copies of the book on set. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBut we knew what it meant to be people and we were determined not to screw it up, and so the only thing I can say about a sequel is it will be made with the same attention and love.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Both closely-watched rising stars, Galitzine is currently starring opposite Anne Hathaway in romcom The Idea of You<\/a>, while Perez has also been seen in Starz\u2019s Minx and other projects.<\/span><\/p>\n
