Ian Rankin\u2019s long-running detective novel series Inspector Rebus, which was previously adapted into a series for ITV, first starring John Hannah followed by <\/span>Ken Stott, has once again been given the TV treatment \u2013 this time for the BBC<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gregory Burke has taken on the writing mantle, with star Lucie Shorthouse describing his work as a \u201creimagining\u201d of the source material, adding: \u201cE<\/span>ven though the characters are obviously different, I think if you\u2019re a fan of the books, hopefully you\u2019ll spot those similarities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s another way to enjoy the story. It\u2019s another format to appreciate that level of storytelling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her co-star Brian Ferguson added: \u201cIt\u2019s built on the Rebus novels, which is such an amazing foundation to work from, but then I think what\u2019s really exciting is that at the beginning of this, Ian Rankin did say to Gregory Burke, \u2018You take these and make them yours.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Greg really has. They feel like a response to the original novels, rather than a faithful adaptation. And by blending those two together, it gives out a whole new life.\u201d<\/p>\n
