In the two-part Sky History show, Eccleston examines two controversial cases, that of the arrest of George Davis for the armed payroll robbery of the<\/span> London Electricity Board, and that of James Hanratty\u2019s death, which sparked a campaign to end capital punishment in the UK.<\/p>\n During the series, Eccleston meets with those closest to both Davis and Hanratty, and this has since sparked enthusiasm within Eccleston to create more documentaries and more episodes of The Guilty Innocent, focusing on different cases of injustice.<\/p>\n In an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Eccleston explained that he loves to interview people, finding the concept fascinating.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I want to do is, I want to make more documentaries, and it\u2019s interesting because I have a level of recognition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cOften, when I get into an Uber or a taxi, or I\u2019m walking down the <\/span>street, people want to talk to me about me and acting. And that\u2019s the<\/span> last thing I want to do, is talk about me.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, down the<\/span> years I\u2019ve developed this skill, if you like, for turning the<\/span> tables and asking people about the<\/span>m.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve done a number of interviews on [BBC] Radio 4, for Loose Ends. And that\u2019s what I love, I love interviewing people, I love listening to people. I don\u2019t love talking about myself.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n He continued: \u201cIt\u2019s like a doctor going to a party, you know, it\u2019s the<\/span> same thing. If you\u2019re any worth as an actor, you don\u2019t like talking about yourself. My job is to understand othe<\/span>r individuals.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, to a certain extent, when I\u2019m talking to George [Davis], I\u2019m thinking, \u2018Can I play him? Or can I play members of the<\/span> Hanratty family? Can I empathise with the<\/span>ir feeling of injustice and anger and stuff?\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cMy job was to draw out the<\/span>ir stories, and to become a conduit for the<\/span> viewers.\u201d<\/p>\n As for what documentaries he has up his sleeve, Eccleston told RadioTimes.com<\/strong> which major cases he would like to take a look at, noting three in particular that \u201cneed\u201d re-examining.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Stephen Lawrence case needs examining,\u201d he said. \u201cI did a drama documentary about the<\/span> Hillsborough disaster \u2013 I think the<\/span>re is still injustice the<\/span>re. That case is still not fully resolved, not that it<\/span>\u00a0ever will be because of the<\/span> loss of 97 lives.<\/p>\n \u201cAlso, the<\/span> Derek Bentley case, which, of course, I made a film about \u2013 Let Him Have It. The<\/span>re are so many, you know, it\u2019s such a rich area for us to explore.\u201d<\/p> As for what audiences will take from The Guilty Innocent? Eccleston hopes people become more aware about miscarriages of justice and just how much people\u2019s voices can make a difference, as was recently seen following ITV\u2019s Mr Bates vs The Post Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n Eccleston told RadioTimes.com<\/strong> that those working on The Guilty Innocent want viewers \u201cto be engaged with the<\/span> narrative and the<\/span> story\u201d.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cI think, particularly for a younger generation, we want the<\/span>m to be aware of inconsistencies within the<\/span> legal system, and that to raise consciousness we need to be vigilant about miscarriages of justice.
