The BBC has announced that sports journalist and broadcasting legend, Rob Bonnet, will be retiring later this year after almost 50 years working for the corporation.<\/p>\n

71-year-old Bonet, who first joined the BBC in 1977, has covered major sporting events around the World over the years, and has presented the sport on BBC Radio 4\u2019s Today since 2007. He will retire after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Bonnet said in a statement: \u201cI shall look back with great affection for my time at the BBC which has allowed me to cover many important stories, meet countless outstanding sportsmen and women, form many friendships and visit numerous events all over the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been proud to work for the world\u2019s leading public service broadcaster and on Today, where I have been very happy in an office which has a special camaraderie as well as being the most influential and skilfully produced and presented radio news programme on the BBC.\u201d<\/p>\n
