The Chase host signed up for the project after learning The Durrells creator Simon Nye would be writing it. <\/p>
Bradley Walsh has revealed that he didn\u2019t know a great deal about The Darling Buds of May and his character Pop before signing up for The Larkins<\/a>, ITV\u2019s upcoming adaptation of H.E. Bates\u2019 books.<\/p>\n Speaking at a Q&A for the drama, the former Doctor Who star said that, while he wasn\u2019t familiar with the Larkin characters, he joined the project after learning that Simon Nye would be writing the project.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I got asked to play Pop, I said yes immediately and then I thought, \u2018Hang on a minute, what have I done?\u2019 Because everything that you do, there are massive time constraints on everything and other stuff that you do.\u201d<\/p> He added: \u201cThe next question I asked was, and I don\u2019t want to make him blush, was: \u2018Who\u2019s writing it?\u2019 And they said, \u2018Simon Nye\u2019 and I was a massive fan of The Durrells in actual fact, because Simon\u2019s body of work is amazing.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t know the H.E. [Bates] books and I maybe watched one episode back in the day, in the \u201990s, of the original show so it wasn\u2019t really my sort of area of expertise but then they told me Simon was writing it and I thought, well that\u2019s great. That\u2019s absolutely brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n Walsh added that taking on The Larkins was \u201ca bit of a no-brainer\u201d, adding that he \u201creally enjoyed making\u201d the ITV drama.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a very warm, nostalgic show.
