After the success of Baby Reindeer, what is series creator and star Richard Gadd doing next? <\/p>

It\u2019s safe to say that there\u2019s one Netflix drama that has completely dominated conversation and the charts as of late and that\u2019s Baby Reindeer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The recently released drama is based on comedian Richard Gadd<\/a>\u2018s own life and has quickly snowballed, becoming a global success and talked-about due to its handling of sensitive topics, stellar performances from Gadd<\/a> and Jessica Gunning<\/a> and because of the subject matter<\/a> on which it\u2019s based.<\/p>\n

The series was adapted from Gadd<\/a>\u2018s one-man play that he previously performed at 2019\u2019s Edinburgh Fringe, a play that also bagged Gadd an Olivier Award in 2020.<\/p>\n

Before the successful series, though, Gadd was relatively unknown to many, despite roles in Sky\u2019s Code 404<\/a>, Disney Plus\u2019s Wedding Season<\/a> and BBC\u2019s Clique<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Well, the writer, actor and comedian is lining up his next project and while Lions is a \u201cnew challenge\u201d for Gadd, it will be a BBC drama in which Gadd won\u2019t<\/em> be starring in.<\/p>\n

What is Richard Gadd doing after Baby Reindeer?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Richard Gadd\u2019s next project is BBC\u2019s Lions, which Gadd has written and created.<\/p>\n

Lions was actually announced previously in February 2024 ahead of the release of Baby Reindeer<\/a>, and has been described as \u201can original six-part drama about two men across the decades\u201d.<\/p>\n

The new series will be set and filmed around Glasgow and covers themes of masculinity as we explore the lives of two brothers.<\/p>\n

The synopsis for Lions reads: \u201cWhen Niall\u2019s estranged \u2018brother\u2019 Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpanning almost forty years from the 1980s to the present day, this ambitious series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers\u2019 relationship, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults \u2013 with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will capture the wild energy of a changing city \u2013 a changing world, even \u2013 and try to get to the bottom of the difficult question\u2026 What does it mean to be a man?\u201d<\/p>

As of now, no casting has been announced for Lions but we do know that, unlike Baby Reindeer, Gadd will not be starring in this series.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about not wishing to be on the other side of the camera for Lions, Gadd said: \u201cNo, I\u2019m not going to act in that, for a couple of reasons. For\u00a0Baby Reindeer, it added a layer of intrigue because it happened to me and I think it made the piece more interesting.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I want Lions to exist as a piece of art, as a piece of work without my sudden recognition getting in the way, which is why we\u2019ll cast people who aren\u2019t me in the principal roles.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the announcement of the series, Gadd said in a statement:\u00a0\u201cWhen I first started talking about this project with the wonderful Tally Garner and Morven Reid, it was love at first sight. For them, anyway. I kept it purely professional. I am absolutely thrilled to be working with them in bringing Ruben and Niall to the screen alongside Lindsay Salt, Gaynor Holmes, and the incredible BBC team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a dream come true to be part of such a historic broadcaster with a reputation for bringing the best comedy and drama (and comedy-drama for that matter) to our screens. A dream which will likely wear off when it comes to tight writing deadlines and rainy shooting days on the streets of Glasgow. Just joking.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never been happier to work on anything in my life and I would like to thank Tally, Morven, and Gaynor for everything \u2013 as well as the inimitable Lindsay Salt who has always been my biggest champion and to whom I will always owe a great debt of gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about whether or not Lions is also based on a true story, Gadd also told THR: \u201cIt\u2019s six-episodes, about 45-minutes each. It\u2019s about the lifespan of two very dysfunctional brothers and the show takes you through their lives and how they interact.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the stuff I\u2019ve done as an emotional truth to it, but this is not based on my life at all. It\u2019s a fictional world and a new challenge that I\u2019m really looking forward to.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what will come after the rollercoaster ride that is Baby Reindeer and the release of Lions, Gadd has admitted he doesn\u2019t know. He revealed: \u201cI think what I\u2019ll do is finish\u00a0Lions and then take stock of where I\u2019m at and try to figure out what to do next. Ultimately, I\u2019d love to try and do a film at some point. That would be amazing. I am not saying I have any real concrete ideas for one but I\u2019d like to try and so some acting, not just me writing it.\u201d<\/p>\n
