Ever since it was announced that Steven Moffat would be penning an episode<\/a> of Ncuti Gatwa\u2019s first season as the Doctor, fans have been anticipating its arrival on screens.<\/p>\n

Titled \u2018Boom\u2019, the Doctor and Ruby Sunday find themselves \u201ccaught in the middle of a devastating war on Kastarion 3\u201d, and the Doctor becomes trapped when he steps on a landmine.<\/p>\n

The question that lingers if is he can save himself, Ruby and the entire planet \u2013 all without moving.<\/p>\n

The episode, which is undoubtedly going to be thrilling to say the least, leans into new stakes that the Doctor hasn\u2019t found himself in in the last two episodes, and Moffat has revealed what inspired him to tap into something different.<\/p>\n

In the press notes for episode 3, Moffat explained that he began chatting to Russell T Davies when the latter returned as Doctor Who showrunner, and when asked if he wanted to do an episode, he kept thinking, \u201cWhat have I not done?\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cI\u2019ve done everything I could possibly think of on Doctor Who<\/a>. But it occurred to me that Doctor Who doesn\u2019t often do suspense or tension \u2013 it does adventure, love stories and comedy all the time. It does just about everything, but not a lot of suspense.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Doctor kills suspense because he\u2019s funny and in control, which quickly ends any suspense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Queue the landmine!<\/p>\n

The idea for this episode stemmed from \u201ca short sequence in Genesis of the Daleks\u201d that Moffat loved as a child, and he thought about how it could work for an entire episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Doctor on a knife\u2019s edge, one wrong move and it\u2019s all over,\u201d Moffat said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would take so much away from him \u2013 he can\u2019t run about, he can\u2019t bamboozle people and he literally can\u2019t move. I thought, \u2018That\u2019s something that I haven\u2019t done.’\u201d<\/p>\n
