The acclaimed sitcom is returning for a second outing three years after its first run. <\/p>

British comedy legend Meera Syal is set to make a guest appearance in the upcoming second season of We Are Lady Parts \u2013 and RadioTimes.com<\/a> can exclusively reveal a first-look image of her character.<\/p>\n

The snap shows Syal in an all-black outfit, including a leather jacket, as she plays guitar on stage alongside Sarah Kameela Impey\u2019s character Saira, who is the leader of the titular band in the popular sitcom.<\/p>\n

More specific details of the Goodness Gracious Me star\u2019s character Sister Squire have not been disclosed at this stage but she\u2019s certainly an exciting addition to the cast for the series, which is returning to Channel 4 three years after the first season debuted to critical acclaim.<\/p>\n

The first run focused on Anjana Vasan\u2019s Amina, a nerdy microbiology student who joined the ranks of all-female Muslim punk band Lady Parts as their new lead guitar player.<\/p>\n

In addition to Amina and Saira, the band also included drummer Ayesha (Juliette Motamed), bass player Bisma (Faith Omole) and manager Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse).<\/p>\n

In the second season, the band are set to return with a renewed artistic mission following the high of their first UK tour \u2013 only to find a rival band threatening their delicate status quo.<\/p>\n

The official synopsis teases: \u201cAs the reality of chasing success sets in, Lady Parts embarks on recording their first album, juggling personal ambitions and questioning whether \u2018making it big\u2019 is really what they want\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The show was created by Polite Society<\/a> writer\/director Nida Manzoor, who said she was \u201cgalvanised\u201d by the prospect of making the second season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe characters, the world, the tone \u2013 it was all there, established, and ready to go,\u201d she explained. \u201cNow it was time to turn things up to eleven. I wanted to go bolder, sillier, darker, and deeper and that is exactly what we strived to do.\u201d<\/p>

She added that the new run will see the interior lives of each of the women explored in more depth, with \u201ceach of them facing new, existential challenges with all the silliness, pratfalls, and banter of series 1\u201d.<\/p>\n

And she also teased \u201cmore wild original tunes\u201d, as well as \u201ceven better covers\u201d. Plenty to look forwards to then!<\/p>\n
