The Doctor Who actor will be playing the role of The General at the Barbican this summer. <\/p>

Cole Porter\u2019s 1948 musical Kiss Me, Kate<\/a> will open at The Barbican theatre this June, starring Adrian Dunbar, Stephanie J Block, and Peter Davison all caught up in a very Shakespearean<\/em> love triangle.<\/p>\n

The Line of Duty<\/a> star is leading the cast as Fred Graham, a stage actor and director still in love (however begrudgingly) with his ex-wife and co-star Lilli Vanessi (Block). Meanwhile, he has a romantic rival in Davison\u2019s character, General Harrison Howell, who is Lilli\u2019s fianc\u00e9.<\/p>\n

In this new adaptation, Dunbar is getting to show his musical theatre chops for the very first time, whereas Davison has found himself very much on the bench.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m singing at all in this,\u201d he laughed, \u201cUsually my limit is one song per musical, but now in this part they\u2019ve actually stopped me singing at all\u2026 I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s a bad sign!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Doctor Who<\/a> actor joked that they\u2019d desperately asked him \u201cplease don\u2019t sing!\u201d. Although anyone familiar with the West End scene will know of his many musical appearances, including as King Arthur in Spamalot, Professor Callahan in Legally Blonde, and Herbie in the Imelda Staunton production of Gypsy.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> \u2013 alongside Dunbar and cast member Hammed Animashaun \u2013 Davison went on to say how excited he was to be back at the West End: \u201cWe\u2019re all stage actors really.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my time, everyone was trained for the stage and you get easily distracted by TV and film because, well, it looks very nice on the bank balance, but really we\u2019re just going back to what we\u2019re trained for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the obvious draws<\/em> of TV and film, this sentiment was backed up by Dunbar who said: \u201cYou always want to go back to the stage, it\u2019s a live gig, and it\u2019s the transference you get from the audience that you don\u2019t get from TV.\u201d<\/p>\n

Animashaun, who plays one of the show\u2019s infamous gangsters, added: \u201cI started on stage and my love for the stage has never faltered. It\u2019s always like coming back home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of Kiss Me Kate\u2019s run, which starts in less than two weeks, the three cast members confessed to being eager, but also a bit nervous about bringing the show together. Davison said: \u201c[Bartlett Sher, director] said at the read through \u2018I want to keep it quite fluid,\u2019 which is exciting and terrifying at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cIt\u2019s nice to keep things fluid because you can bring in lots of new ideas, but at some point you have to pin it down, and we\u2019ll certainly get to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Animashaun said: \u201cWe\u2019re definitely on the right track 100%. It\u2019s always hard to gauge where we are but we\u2019re having a really good time in the rehearsal room, and as soon as we get to that first preview we\u2019ll be alright.\u201d<\/p>\n

The A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream actor also spoke about being on the stage alongside the two TV stars: \u201cI never thought I would be doing something as big as this with huge names. It\u2019s a blessing. I\u2019m always learning and this is honestly like a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
