With Gavin & Stacey returning for one last Christmas special<\/a>, we\u2019re all getting ready for the end of an era as the hit sitcom finally reaches its conclusion.<\/p>\n

We know creators James Corden and Ruth Jones are already busy writing the script for the last ever episode after the news was confirmed earlier this month but details are thin on the ground right now.<\/p>\n

Corden and Jones are yet to announce which cast members will be returning for the finale but it\u2019s safe to say many of the key players are keen to come back, having repeatedly expressed their interest in recent years.<\/p>\n

Now, however, it looks like one of the series\u2019 most beloved secondary characters might be making a comeback.<\/p>\n

Sheridan Smith, who played Smithy\u2019s (Corden) younger sister Rudi\/Smithy in seven episodes of the series, last appearing in 2010, is reportedly in talks to reprise her role.<\/p>\n

The Sunday Mirror<\/a> reports informal discussions are already underway despite rumours the actress would not be involved in the finale.<\/p>\n

A source told the publication: \u201cThe script for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale includes all of the show\u2019s major players \u2013 including Smithy\u2019s sister Rudi. Nothing has been signed and conversations are still very much ongoing \u2013 especially as the filming date has not been set.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut all of the stops are being pulled out to make sure the whole cast are there, and in the coming weeks the production team hope to pin down everyone\u2019s availability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The source said Smith didn\u2019t appear in the 2019 Christmas special because Rudi was \u201cnot part of that storyline\u201d but added that it\u2019s \u201ca different story this time around\u201d.<\/p>\n

When approached by RadioTimes.com<\/a>, the BBC declined to comment.<\/p>\n

Alison Steadman appeared to confirm her return for the Gavin & Stacey<\/a> finale earlier this month, the Pam Shipman actress telling The Sun: \u201cI know it\u2019s going to happen. I just haven\u2019t seen the script \u2013 none of us has seen the script\u2026 We only found out [it was happening] for definite the other day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Larry Lamb, who plays Gavin\u2019s dad Mick Shipman also sounds positive about his involvement, writing on X (formerly Twitter) following the announcement of the last episode: \u201cWell just to say everyone who\u2019s asked about another G&S \u2026 we just got the word from the BBC this morning\u2026 it\u2019s definitely occurin!!\u201d<\/p>\n
