Tom King (James Chase) inflicted cruel abuse on pet dog Piper in tonight\u2019s unsettling edition of Emmerdale<\/a> (28th May 2024), all in a bid to get wife Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) to return home.<\/p>\n

When Tom made Belle think her mental health was relapsing<\/a>, his scheme backfired when Belle called the nurses assigned to her care, and chose to be admitted as an inpatient.<\/p>\n

Belle opted not to let Tom visit her, instead asking her sister-in-law Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) to visit.<\/p>\n

Knowing how much Belle loved their pet, Tom injected Piper with a substance which rendered her unable to move. He told his colleagues at the vets\u2019 surgery, before putting in a call to Lydia.<\/p>\n

Tom played up to the role of heartbroken owner as he lied to Lydia over Piper\u2019s illness, insisting that Piper may not have long left to live.<\/p>\n

When Tom reminded Lydia how much Belle loved Piper, Lydia offered to tell Belle what was going on when she saw her that day.<\/p>

Meanwhile, Belle had a chat with a psychiatrist, explaining that she had agreed to try for a baby with her husband, wanting to please him despite not being ready herself, because \u201cit felt easier\u201d.<\/p>\n

When quizzed on this, Belle relayed that she and Tom often \u201cgot their wires crossed\u201d, and claimed that she hadn\u2019t been herself lately \u2013 despite the fact that her current state of mind is all down to Tom\u2019s coercive control.<\/p>\n

Tom has also been violent towards Belle<\/a>, and is abusing her in every aspect of their lives together.<\/p>\n

Just as it looked like progress might be made for Belle, Lydia interrupted the session, and ultimately broke the news of Piper\u2019s \u2018condition\u2019.<\/p>\n
