ITV has responded to reports about This Morning\u2019s falling ratings \u2013 claiming that the flagship show \u201chas never had a better connection with viewers\u201d.<\/p>\n
It was recently reported that viewing figures for the programme had been reduced by half in just two months since Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley became the show\u2019s new permanent hosts in March, with the average audience for May falling below half a million.<\/p>\n
This led to one TV insider telling The Sun<\/a> that \u201cthere is a massive question mark lingering over the future of the show\u201d, but ITV has been defiant in its response.<\/p>\n \u201cThis Morning continues to reach over 4 million viewers a week and remains one of the most streamed programmes on ITVX in 2024,\u201d a spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p> They continued: \u201cThe award-winning show has never had a better connection with viewers; with 11 million followers across This Morning social media platforms and almost 130 million video views of This Morning content each month, reaching an average of 62 million unique social media accounts every month.\u201d<\/p>\n This Morning has gone through a major period of change in the last year following the departure of long-time hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby<\/a>.<\/p>\n Schofield resigned from the show in May 2023 following reports that he had previously had an affair<\/a> with a younger member of the production team, releasing a statement in which he said: \u201cITV has decided the current situation can\u2019t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n He later admitted to the affair and told Amol Rajan in a televised interview that his \u201ccareer is over\u201d following his \u201cgrave error\u201d, stating: \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have done it.\u201d<\/p>\n Willoughby later exited the show in October 2023, telling viewers via Instagram that it was \u201csuch a difficult goodbye\u201d.<\/p>\n For the following few months, the show was hosted by a rotating mix of guest hosts, including Alison Hammond<\/a>, Dermot O\u2019Leary, Josie Gibson, Rylan Clark, Rochelle Humes, Craig Doyle and Emma Willis, before Shephard and Deeley were confirmed as the new hosts towards the end of February.<\/p>\n This Morning airs on weekdays on ITV1.
