Love Island 2024 is off to a strong start, with season 11 giving the long-running reality series its strongest launch in two years.<\/p>\n

Another batch of singletons have flocked to a luxurious Majorca villa in the hopes of finding love, with the first episode packing a major twist in the announcement of the show\u2019s first ever celebrity contestant.<\/p>\n

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex<\/a> is joining the latest season, bringing his strong track record for reality competitions, which includes a fourth place finish on I\u2019m a Celebrity 2013 and a runner-up rank in last year\u2019s Dancing on Ice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ITV will be hoping this helps to further boost viewership for its lucrative reality series, which has seen its ratings slide in recent editions as various competing shows appear.<\/p>\n

For now, though, Love Island 2024<\/a> is looking steady, posting a peak overnight rating of 2.2 million (and an average of 1.9 million watching across the whole 90-minute premiere).<\/p>

The show remains popular with younger people, with ITV reporting that Love Island\u2019s premiere was the most popular programme of the day among the 16-34 age demographic, with approximately 400,000 tuning in.<\/p>\n

Coming up tonight, the islanders will still be reeling from the sudden arrival of Joey Essex, with contestant Mimii Ngulube<\/a> saying it \u201cmight be the biggest plot twist to happen on Love Island\u201d.<\/p>\n

Later, she asks the reality star for his \u201ctop three\u201d girls, but he declines to answer.<\/p>\n

Essex explains: \u201cMy game plan is just to get to know everyone, really. I want to get to know all the girls on a personal level, and who I vibe with most.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, around the fire pit, he will decide which of the girls to \u201csteal\u201d from their current couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s obviously been tough because I have got to know all of you girls on a nice level,\u201d he\u2019ll say.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, obviously, got to know all you boys on a cool level \u2013 I feel like we\u2019re tight and we\u2019re getting on well, but this is Love Island\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
