The Star Wars<\/a> timeline is a complicated thing, not least when you factor in all the TV series like The Mandalorian<\/a>, Andor<\/a>, and now The Acolyte<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The multiple series have meant we can explore worlds and eras within Star Wars which were previously only referenced briefly, with The Acolyte, starring Amandla Stenberg<\/a>, taking us back further than ever before.<\/p>\n

The new series is set in the High Republic era, over 100 years before The Phantom Menace<\/a>, which means that showrunner Leslye Headland could, really, have had a lot of artistic licence to do what she wanted with it.<\/p>\n

However, considering what a huge fan Headland is of Star Wars in general, she mostly wanted to pay homage to the franchise.<\/p>\n

She told RadioTimes.com<\/a>: \u201cI just went nuts. I crammed every single thing I could into the show, which is maybe a good thing or maybe a bad thing. I love Star Wars so much that getting the opportunity to work on one, I was just like, \u2018I\u2019m gonna put everything I have into this.’\u201d<\/p>\n

So, here\u2019s everything you need to know about when specifically The Acolyte is set.<\/p>\n

When is The Acolyte set?<\/strong><\/h2>\n
The Acolyte is set at the end of the High Republic era, roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace<\/strong>. It\u2019s set earlier than anything else we\u2019ve seen in the Star Wars franchise so far.<\/p>\n
Within the canon of Star Wars, dates are a little different than our own. Generally speaking, fans count years forwards and backwards from the original 1977 Star Wars film, specifically the Death Star assault at the film\u2019s conclusion, aka the Battle of Yavin.<\/p>\n
In other words, every Star Wars movie, book, spin-off game or TV show is either set a number of years\u00a0before<\/em>\u00a0the Battle of Yavin (BBY) or\u00a0after<\/em>\u00a0the Battle of Yavin (ABY).<\/p>\n
Due to The Phantom Menace being set around 32 BBY, we can estimate that The Acolyte is set around 132 BBY<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
