Ryan Condal said that he’s “not thinking that far ahead” just yet \u2013\u00a0but acknowledged that sticking the landing will be the hardest thing. <\/p>
We might still be a while away from the end of Game of Thrones<\/a> spin-off series House of the Dragon<\/a> \u2013 but showrunner Ryan Condal has admitted that he already has some lurking fears about how to end the show.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> ahead of the launch of the upcoming second run, Condal said that although he\u2019s \u201cnot thinking that far ahead\u201d just yet, he was aware that \u201csticking the landing is actually the most difficult thing\u201d when it comes to a beloved TV series.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause everybody by that point, many years on down the road, are going to have their own idea of where the show should and\/or what it should be,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd you can\u2019t satisfy all of those very specific ideas. You can\u2019t give them what they want. You have to give them the thing that they need.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd that\u2019s our challenge as adapters, and, you know, I\u2019m willing to take it on \u2013 but yes, it is\u2026 that lurks in the back of my mind, for sure.\u201d<\/p> Condal also revealed that the process of writing and making the second run had given him \u201csome level of clarity\u201d about where and when he wanted to end the show.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cAnd look, as I always say, there\u2019s a history that marches on for decades after this. So it\u2019s not about ending the Targaryen history. It\u2019s just finding the place to close the curtain on this particular time\u2026<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re trying to find the satisfying television ending or the conclusion where we can leave everybody knowing that time marches on from here, but we\u2019ve brought this dramatic story to a close.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, I think that\u2019s become very clear as we\u2019ve just gotten farther down the timeline. But I\u2019m not ready to yet talk about how many episodes or seasons are left.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I think the nice thing is we know where we\u2019re going, we have all the material that we need, because the book is written and hopefully we can bring this to a satisfying conclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Condal also explained that the challenge for season two was to \u201craise the bar\u201d from the first season, especially since it was received so warmly by both fans and critics.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery season is its own challenge,\u201d he said. \u201cThe first season, the challenge was making something that anybody would engage with and care about after the celestial event that was that original series.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd how do you follow that? You don\u2019t \u2013 you just try to make something that stands on its own two feet.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, we did that \u2013 people showed up, they liked it. That\u2019s great. Now we have to outdo ourselves and raise the bar, and they\u2019re coming in with such high expectation.
