Less than a year since the Academy Award nominee played the titular assassin in stylish David Fincher flick The Killer<\/a>, Fassbender is returning to the world of espionage \u2013 this time for Paramount Plus<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Coming to the streamer in the near future, The Agency follows Fassbender\u2019s Martian, \u201ca covert CIA agent ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station\u201d when his former flame reappears, according to the synopsis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The series will see Martian juggle romance and murder as his personal and professional lives clash, throwing him into \u201ca deadly game of international intrigue\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n As well as fronting the new show, Fassbender will executively produce alongside George Clooney and Grant Heslov, marking this as one of Paramount Plus\u2019s most high-profile outings yet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking of The Agency\u2019s leading man, Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global\u2019s co-CEO and president\/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said: \u201cMichael Fassbender is one of the most gifted actors of our time.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHe brings a gravitas and nuanced complexity to every character he inhabits, which is why we are so excited for him to star in The Agency as we start to roll out our new slate of Showtime originals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n After a slightly underwhelming period for Fassbender in the late 2010s, epitomised by blockbuster duds such as Assassin\u2019s Creed and Alien: Covenant, the Germany-born talent appears to be back on an upwards trajectory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Killer was <\/span>well-received by critics<\/span><\/a>, with RadioTimes.com <\/a><\/span>describing Fassbender\u2019s performance<\/span><\/a> as \u201ctriumphant\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n And the 47-year-old has recently wrapped production on new Steven Soderbergh feature Black Bag alongside Cate Blanchett, while he will next appear in Sundance Audience Award winner Kneecap, a comedy-drama charting the rise of the Belfast-based rap trio that is already generating plenty of buzz.<\/span><\/p>\n For now, though, his attention will turn to his work on The Agency, which is described as a \u201cfresh take\u201d on the critically-acclaimed French drama The Bureau \u2013 arguably one of the greatest shows of all time.
