It will be Lincoln’s first role on UK television for almost 15 years. <\/p>
ITV has announced a new six-part thriller titled Cold Water \u2013 which will mark The Walking Dead<\/a> star Andrew Lincoln\u2019s first UK television role in almost 15 years.<\/p>\n Lincoln is joined by an impressive ensemble for the series, with Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Eve Myles (Keeping Faith) among the other big names in the cast.<\/p>\n The series has been created and written by playwright David Ireland and stars Lincoln as a repressed middle-age man living in London, where he is \u201csecretly raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad\u201d.<\/p>\n The synopsis continues: \u201cWhen his failure to intervene in a violent confrontation in a playground brings his identity crisis to a head, John ups and moves his family to the rural idyll of Coldwater, as far away from London as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n Soon after his arrival in the fictional Scottish village, he befriends his charming and confident new neighbour Tommy (Bremner), who is married to the local vicar Rebecca (Myles) and is a pillar of the community \u2013 including being the self-appointed leader of the village\u2019s all-male book group.<\/p> Although John is impressed and slightly fascinated by Tommy, his wife Fiona (Varma) \u2013 who saw the move as an opportunity to rebuild their lives and marriage \u2013 very much takes the opposite view.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen her husband\u2019s relationship with their enigmatic new neighbour becomes increasingly intense, Fiona\u2019s suspicions are aroused,\u201d the synopsis teases.<\/p>\n \u201cBut John remains blissfully unaware that Tommy is harbouring horrifying secrets, and it\u2019s only after a series of unsettling incidents start to occur that John begins to wonder who the real Tommy actually is.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd when John\u2019s long-repressed rage comes to a head with disastrous results, he soon finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Speaking about the new series, Ireland said that it began with a \u201cquestion I was asking myself\u201d about whether he would rather live in the countryside or the city.<\/p>\n \u201cSuch an innocent beginning, but from it came this dark, funny, twisted thriller,\u201d he said. \u201cI was delighted when Sister loved the script and thrilled when ITV decided to commission it.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I\u2019m amazed we\u2019ve managed to attract such a peerless cast, led by the formidable Andrew Lincoln. I hope viewers will be find it intoxicating.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile ITV\u2019s head of drama, Polly Hill, added: \u201cWe are very excited for ITV to be the home for this brilliant new thriller exploring masculinity, religion and ultimately murder.
