Last month, it was finally confirmed<\/a> that a third Downton Abbey<\/a> film was on the way \u2013 and now we have an official release date for what is being billed as the beloved period drama\u2019s final outing.<\/p>\n

The film \u2013 which is currently in production in the UK \u2013 is set to be released on Friday 12th September 2025,<\/strong> roughly three and a half years on from the previous instalment, Downton Abbey: A New Era.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019d expect, there\u2019s plenty of familiar talent involved in the new film, with series creator Julian Fellowes once again writing the script and Simon Curtis returning to direct after also helming the previous entry.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s a wealth of familiar cast members as well, with the long list of returning faces including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith and Dominic West.<\/p>

Meanwhile, Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti will reprise his role as Harold Levinson from the 2013 Christmas special, and Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola and Simon Russell Beale are all set for Downton debuts.<\/p>\n

As yet, exact plot details have not been confirmed, but Bonneville did recently tease<\/a> that it will contain \u201cnew elements\u201d and further still that it was shaping up to be the \u201cbest iteration of the film versions yet\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs always, there\u2019s that rhythm of things changing with glacial slowness, and Robert finally accepting that things [are changing] \u2014 it\u2019s time to move the story on, so to speak,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s got the usual tropes, if you like, of thrills and spills in a very Downtown way \u2013 which means spilling a tea cup, pretty much!\u201d<\/p>\n

When the third film was announced in May, an accompanying video was released showing the cast reuniting at a read-through.<\/p>\n
