The series has reportedly died in development hell. <\/p>
The Arkham Asylum TV series, which w<\/span>as set to take place in <\/span>DC\u2019s Batman universe<\/span>, is reportedly no longer moving forward at Max<\/a>, at least not in its current form.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Antonio Campos had come onboard to serve as writer and showrunner <\/span>back in October 2022, but according to Variety<\/a> Campos\u2019s version is no longer in the works.<\/span><\/p>\n The publication added that, although the series has been shelved, another project set at the Asylum could still be on the cards in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n The Arkham Asylum series, which was announced in 2020, was originally meant to be a spin-off to Matt Reeves\u2019s series of films and would focus on the inner workings of the Gotham City Police Department.<\/span><\/p>\n Terrence Winter was attached to write and executive produce, but he departed from the project in November 2020 due to creative differences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Reeves then announced in 2022 that the GCPD show would focus on Arkham Asylum, <\/span>describing it as a \u201chorror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham\u201d during an interview with YouTube channel The Cyber Nerds<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n In December 2023, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn<\/span> clarified that it was meant to be set within the company\u2019s new universe, the DCU, rather than in the same universe as The Batman.<\/span><\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Arkham Asylum might have been shelved, but there are plenty of other Batman and DC stories on the horizon, including <\/span>The Penguin<\/a>, a crime drama series with Colin Farrell in the titular role, and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The Batman \u2013 Part II, which is currently scheduled for release in October 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n There\u2019s also the DCU-set Batman: The Brave and the Bold to look forward to, which has lined up The <\/span>Flash\u2019s Andy Muschietti to direct.<\/span><\/p>\n There\u2019s currently no word on a release date.<\/span><\/p>\n Check out more of our\u00a0Sci-Fi<\/a>\u00a0coverage or visit our\u00a0TV Guide<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Streaming Guide<\/a>\u00a0to find out what\u2019s on.
