The period comedy-drama is back on Channel 4. <\/p>

The Great season 3 is now streaming on Channel 4, with star Adam Godley teasing an exciting new character making their debut in the final batch of episodes.<\/p>\n

The period comedy-drama stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult as Catherine the Great and Peter III respectively, charting the former\u2019s rise from outsider to one of the longest-serving rulers of Russia.<\/p>\n

Godley co-stars as Archbishop Samsa (aka Archie), the pious patriarch of Peter III\u2019s court, and spoke to RadioTimes.com<\/a> about what fans can expect from the final 10 episodes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t spoil [but] there is a pretty fabulous, unexpected new character coming in,\u201d he teased. \u201cThere are some smaller new characters coming in. I know we had Gillian Anderson last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re having somebody who people will be pretty excited about.\u201d<\/p>

The Great was cancelled by US streaming service Hulu several months after its third season debuted across the pond, but Godley appeared confident that fans would be satisfied with the conclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re consolidating the characters that are there,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think there are some huge surprises in season 3 \u2013 absolute left-field kind of [makes explosion noise] for the audience\u2026 it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to Radio Times\u00a0magazine<\/strong>, The Great star Fanning said: \u201cI do feel the pressure of wanting season 3 to live up to what people want it to be \u2013 but to still be surprising. It has to still have a shock value. And I think it will.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor, who has earned an Emmy nomination for her performance as Catherine, went on to tease that season 3 finds her monarch still in the midst of a \u201cvery complicated and very messy\u201d romance with Peter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do we do? Are we able to sustain this relationship? It seems like we are drawn to each other, and kind of made for each other in a lot of odd ways, and we can\u2019t help this connection and kind of electricity that we have together.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut is it just doomed?\u201d<\/p>\n
