By: Kimberley Bond.<\/strong><\/p>\n Surprising smash Squid Game<\/a> has captivated audiences across the globe, with the Korean-language drama now set to become the most watched Netflix<\/a> show of all time.<\/p>\n The nine-part series follows gambler Seong Gi-Hun, who finds himself\u00a0competing in a series of playground games in order to win a life-changing amount of cash.\u00a0But these otherwise beloved children\u2019s games have a decidedly sadistic edge, with those\u00a0who fail or lose their tasks being \u2018eliminated\u2019 \u2013 a euphemism for being shot in the head.<\/p>\n Gi-Hun finds himself lured into the tournament after he is approached by a wealthy and\u00a0suave businessman (played by acting legend Gong Yoo) in the subway. The businessman\u00a0offers to engage Gi-hun in a game of ddakji \u2013 if Gi-hun wins a round, he wins petty cash, if\u00a0the businessman wins, he\u2019s allowed to slap Gi-hun across the face.<\/p>\n The paper flip challenge is the viewers\u2019 first inclination of how brutal the games will be, but what exactly is ddakji? And how is it played?<\/p>\n Here\u2019s all you need to know.<\/p>\n The paper flipping challenge is called ddakji, a traditional South Korean game played by\u00a0using folded paper tiles. The cards are made by using a very simple origami fold, which can be fun for little ones to do before playing the game properly.<\/p>\n Read more about Squid Game:<\/strong><\/p>\n Ddakji is not dissimilar to retro \u201990s game Pogs, so bear that in mind when you play. The aim of Ddakji is to flip over your opponent\u2019s card. This done by\u00a0throwing one card as hard as possible at the other.\u00a0Throwing ddakji looks simple, but getting the angle and force necessary to flip the other\u00a0player\u2019s tile takes practice.\u00a0Aiming your throw towards the widest part of the card helps flip it over.<\/p>\n Instead of playing for cash (or a slap round the face), if you do manage to flip your\u00a0opponent\u2019s card, you get to keep it \u2013 so it\u2019s best to make several cards before playing.<\/p>\n Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix.
