The star revealed that viewers can expect “unbelievable and mindblowing” developments regarding her character. <\/p>
Jennifer Metcalfe has been playing Mercedes McQueen on Hollyoaks for almost two decades \u2013 but the actor has claimed that what\u2019s coming for her character is unlike anything she\u2019s experienced since making her debut in 2006.<\/p>\n
The soap is set to jump forwards a year this September when it moves from five episodes a week to three, with fans having to wave goodbye to some much-loved and long-running characters in the process, including Mercedes\u2019 lover Warren (Jamie Lomas).<\/p>\n
And speaking at the first ever edition of the RadioTimes.com<\/a> Soap Awards sponsored by\u00a0Inspired Villages<\/a><\/strong>, Metcalfe teased that when we pick up with her story 12 months into the future, there are going to be some big shocks in store for viewers.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going to see Mercedes totally different to\u2026 we\u2019ve ever, ever seen her before,\u201d she explained during an exclusive interview. \u201cOver the, like, last 20 years when producers have given the storylines, I\u2019ve been like: \u2018Oh yeah. that\u2019s a little bit different.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201c[But] how we\u2019re going to see her in the jump forward, the year jump forward is, like, unbelievable and mindblowing and I can\u2019t wait to play it as an actor.\u201d<\/p> \u00a0<\/p>\n This tallies with previous quotes from Metcalfe following news that she had been shortlisted for the Best Actress award, with the star telling<\/a> RadioTimes.com<\/strong> at the time that \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever been as excited about a storyline.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cI\u2019m going to have to dig really deep, it\u2019s somewhere she has never gone before and I\u2019m still not sure how Mercedes goes there but I\u2019ll figure that out once I get the scripts and start working on them.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s certainly going to be intriguing to find out exactly where things go, but whatever these big changes end up being we know that some major developments are in the pipeline for Mercedes \u2013 not least the birth of her twins.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n The\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/span>\u00a0Soap Awards 2024, sponsored by Inspired Villages, took place on 13th July.
