Carr explained that the show’s “home” is in the 1980s. <\/p>
Alan Carr\u2019s ITV comedy Changing Ends<\/a>, which charts his life growing up in the 1980s as the son of a football manager, has returned for its second season, and now Carr has weighed in on the show\u2019s future.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a> at ITV\u2019s comedy season launch, Carr explained that while he hopes for more seasons, he doesn\u2019t see the show running indefinitely.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cI think I would like to do some more, but I feel its home is in the \u201980s. So maybe, I don\u2019t know, \u201989 or something. And then, when I finally got to the stage where I went, \u2018Oh, do you know what? I am gay, I\u2019m different, I don\u2019t care what people think\u2019 \u2013 that\u2019s when the spell was broken.\u201d<\/p>\n So, I think I love this innocence. I love the \u2018what\u2019s going on?!\u2019. I love all that, but there\u2019s going to come a time\u2026 I think as soon as I understand and acknowledge what I am, then I think the spell is broken and that\u2019s when it should end.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Nancy Sullivan, who plays Alan\u2019s mum Christine, added: \u201cIt\u2019s very interesting because Graham [Alan\u2019s dad] loses his job in real life \u2013 this would be the next series \u2013 so you would see the fall of the Carrs just after they got to the top.<\/p>\n \u201cSo that might mean Christine getting a job, which would be great, and having other stuff going on. And also, where Alan would be at that point and seeing them as a family at that stage, when the kids are a bit older and things aren\u2019t going great. It would be very interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/b><\/p>\n Carr also spoke about how his on-screen journey to discovering he is gay differs from some other screen depictions of LGBTQIA+ stories told in the modern era, saying: \u201cNow with LGBTQIA+, there\u2019s this thing with labels and everything. And in the \u201980s, you didn\u2019t\u2026 you sort of had to feel your way around. It wasn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd so, there\u2019s an innocence there, I think, and there\u2019s watching someone trying to find their identity. You know, I didn\u2019t really know what was going on. I knew I just didn\u2019t fancy the people that everyone else was fancying. And I was like, \u2018What?!\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cBut then, it\u2019s a more interesting story than going, \u2018I\u2019m this, I\u2019m that.’\u201d<\/p> Changing Ends will air on ITV1 at 9pm on Saturday 13th July.
