For over a year, Coronation Street viewers have seen favourite Paul Foreman (played by Peter Ash) diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND)<\/a>, and him coming to terms with the diagnosis and living with it day in and day out.<\/p>\n In the coming weeks, the ITV soap will air a special episode dedicated to Paul and Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) as Paul\u2019s daily life continues to change as he begins to struggle with his speech.<\/p>\n In the episode, Paul is determined to make the most out of his last day outside of the house, and Billy takes him to do all of his favourite things for one final time.<\/p>\n At the RadioTimes.com<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Soap Awards 2024<\/strong>\u00a0sponsored by\u00a0Inspired Villages<\/a>, Ash took home the award for Best Storyline, and reflected on what it has been like to take on such a hard-hitting narrative.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Ash said: \u201cWith a storyline like that there\u2019s a lot of pressure to get it right, obviously you don\u2019t want to misrepresent it. A lot of research has been done, the writers have done their research as well.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s tough, being such a heavy storyline, but it feels good knowing we\u2019re getting it right, and the response to it has been amazing from people living with MND themselves and the families [that have] been really responding to it. It\u2019s been amazing in that regard.\u201d<\/p>\n In a previous interview with RadioTimes.com<\/strong>, Ash opened up on meeting with the late Rob Burrow in preparation for the storyline.<\/p>\n \u201cHim and his wife Lindsey came to the Corrie studios last year,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt was amazing to meet the guy, sad to see by that point the condition had taken so much from him, but they were both really glad we were doing the storyline. We were made up with that.<\/p>\n \u201cThey came in at lunchtime and I remember the scenes we filmed that afternoon felt all the more poignant after meeting Rob and Lindsey.\u201d<\/p>\n Following his win at the RadioTimes.com<\/span> Soap Awards 2024<\/strong>, Ash said it was \u201ctotally unreal\u201d, admitting he wasn\u2019t expecting to win \u201cat all\u201d.<\/p>\n Speaking of the public reaction to the storyline, Ash said: \u201cIt\u2019s been amazing, it\u2019s one of the things that\u2019s really surprised me in the best possible way.
