In January 2023, showrunner Russell T Davies confirmed that spin-offs were part of his plan upon his return to Doctor Who, with reports suggesting the first one will focus on the Sea Devils, the iconic monsters who first faced Jon Pertwee\u2019s Third Doctor and returned in 2022 in a special with Jodie Whittaker\u2019s Thirteenth Doctor.<\/p>\n
Deadline<\/a> has now reported that \u201cshooting will commence in September\u201d on the long-awaited show.<\/p>\n The BBC declined to comment when contacted by RadioTimes.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n While the broadcaster hasn\u2019t confirmed any details about the rumoured spin-off, fans picked up on a clue in the season 14 episode 73 Yards<\/a>.<\/p>\n The opening scenes of\u00a0 the widely-loved episode saw the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) delighted to have landed the TARDIS in Wales.<\/p>\n When companion Ruby (Millie Gibson) asked how he can be so certain as to their location, he replied, \u201cThat smell, that green, that coastline\u2026<\/p>\n \u201cRuby, oh\u2026 the rocks and the water, it never ends \u2013\u00a0the war between the land and the sea.\u201d<\/p>\n In January 2024, an entry on the website\u00a0Production List<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 which posts announcements of new TV and film projects in pre-production \u2013 suggested that\u00a0a Doctor Who spin-off<\/a>, titled\u00a0The War Between the Land and the Sea, was in development.<\/p>\n He previously said of his return to Doctor Who: \u201cI thought \u2013 with no criticism whatsoever towards the people who were running it at the time, because they were running it within the BBC\u2019s measures \u2013 it was time for the next stage for Doctor Who.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought the streaming platforms are ready, the spin-offs are ready; I always believed in spin-offs when I was there. I did\u00a0Torchwood<\/a>\u00a0as a spin-off,\u00a0The Sarah Jane Adventures<\/a>\u00a0as a spin-off.<\/p>\n \u201cThose spin-offs declined when I left, and I can see why. And I very much left after 2008, when the money became scarce. I think that\u2019s fair enough for the public service broadcaster that the money is spent on other things.\u201d<\/p>\n Doctor Who will return at Christmas on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
