“They’d floor him.” <\/p>
This article includes discussion of domestic abuse, including coercive control, that some readers may find distressing.<\/em><\/p>\n One of the most prominent storylines in Emmerdale<\/a> in recent months has been the domestic abuse that Belle King (Eden Taylor-Draper) has been suffering at the hands of her controlling husband Tom (James Chase).<\/p>\n It\u2019s something that will continue to be a focus in the coming weeks, and speaking at the RadioTimes.com<\/a>\u00a0Soap Awards 2024 sponsored by\u00a0Inspired Villages<\/a>, cast members Danny Miller and Lawrence Robb revealed what they think would happen if their characters found out about the abuse.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019d floor him,\u201d said Robb, who plays Mackenzie Boyd on the soap, with Aaron Dingle actor Danny Miller adding that they would \u201chave a really long chat\u201d with Tom.<\/p>\n Robb continued: \u201cThere\u2019d be a couple of sarcastic comments, and then\u2026 he\u2019d be, at the end, just \u2018bang!\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n But Miller suggested that there was more likely to be a different resolution to the storyline that didn\u2019t necessarily involve his character.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a viewer, watching it, you\u2019re kind of going, \u2018I hope Aaron does it,’\u201d he said. \u201cBut there\u2019s other ways of getting justice.\u201d<\/p>\n Robb then went on to say that he thinks Belle\u2019s half-brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) will be the one to intervene, with Miller agreeing: \u201cThat\u2019s the most likely\u2026 the obvious one.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s already been revealed that the storyline will come to a head in upcoming episodes, when Tom takes Belle to Wales, with Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper revealing: \u201cTom\u2019s coercive and controlling behaviour will see Belle further isolated from her family.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cThe behaviour Tom King is exhibiting is typical of a coercive, controlling relationship, and at times will prove difficult and uncomfortable to watch.<\/p>\n \u201cThe assistance the charity Refuge has given us whilst researching this storyline has been enormously helpful in bringing this incredibly important storyline to our screens.\u201d<\/p>\n He explained: \u201cI think something that\u2019s going out in a couple of weeks, I don\u2019t know how much I can say, but there is a sort of moment where potential Dingles notice something, and there\u2019s a moment [where they] come down on him like thunder.\u201d<\/p>\n But it seems Tom may get away with things again, as Chase noted that if they do find out, \u201cIt\u2019d be absolutely game over,\u201d but his manipulation tactics may preside once more.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s why Tom [has] survived up until now,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe\u2019s so good at hiding it, and he\u2019s so good at manipulating that he can keep the truth at bay.\u201d<\/p>\n The\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/span>\u00a0Soap Awards 2024, sponsored by\u00a0Inspired Villages<\/a>, took place on 13th July.
