The BBC\u2019s Strictly Come Dancing<\/a> is currently underway, with the show saying goodbye to its first contestant last weekend.<\/p>\n

On Sunday 3rd October, Nina Wadia became the first celebrity to leave Strictly 2021<\/a>, after finishing at the bottom of the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard<\/a> and losing in the dance off against Katie McGlynn.<\/p>\n

Wadia wasn\u2019t the only contestant in the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 line-up<\/a> to receive low scores from the judges though, with Ugo Monye<\/a>, Katie McGlynn<\/a>, Robert Webb<\/a> and Greg Wise<\/a> receiving a combined Week One and Week Two score of 47 or lower.<\/p>\n

While Greg received pretty decent scores from most of the judges, it was Craig Revel Horwood\u2019s score of 3 that knocked him down \u2013 something professional dancer and RadioTimes.com<\/a> columnist, Ian Waite, doesn\u2019t necessarily agree with.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he quibbled with any of the judges\u2019 scores or comments over the weekend, he said: \u201cWell they\u2019re normally mostly Craig\u2019s. It\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s too low.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking of Greg\u2019s performance in particular, Ian continued: \u201cObviously, this dance was a very emotional dance \u2013 the performance dedicated to his beloved sister, who died from breast cancer. And I thought it was a real fitting tribute with the slow motion start into the disco part and very secure stable lifts. They were incredible. They really were.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI felt that the showmanship could have been amped up a little bit more as far as the performance was concerned, but I really loved it and I think maybe Craig was a bit harsh with the three.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Ian doesn\u2019t always agree with Craig\u2019s judging, he believes the lower scoring at the beginning of the competition will only allow for judges to raise these scores as the competition goes on.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a difficult situation for the judges at the moment,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey\u2019re just getting the feel of the couples. There\u2019s so many couples, so you kind of have to start mid range, so you\u2019ve got somewhere to go. You can\u2019t start with a couple with nine and then everybody\u2019s better than that couple. It\u2019s very difficult. I don\u2019t envy those judges at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Craig also pointed out that new judge Anton Du Beke, who has replaced Bruno Tonioli on the new series, had missed some of the dancers\u2019 mistakes during Saturday night\u2019s show.<\/p>\n

So, how does Ian think Anton is doing?<\/p>\n

\u201cAnton is absolutely fabulous and I love the fact that he\u2019s coming from a place of experience and knowledge,\u201d he gushed. \u201cHe\u2019s been in those positions for many, many years, and he can talk about and reflect on his own experiences. I love that he\u2019s on the panel and he can do that, because nobody else can do that. I think he\u2019s giving great technical advice as well.\u00a0 I love to hear\u00a0 when Anton comes out with those technical terms. It makes my heart sing, because I want to say the same as well, so yeah I think he\u2019s doing a fantastic job.\u201d<\/p>

Addressing Craig\u2019s recent comments, he added: \u201cI think it\u2019s difficult when you\u2019re watching the performance because obviously they write notes as well, so you want to write notes whilst you\u2019re watching the performance, and you might miss a couple of things, because things are so fast like a lift or something like that or a mistake. I can understand where Anton\u2019s coming from and Craig.\u201d<\/p>\n

This weekend will see Tom Fletcher<\/a> and his professional dance partner Amy Dowden return to the ballroom, after having to take a week out due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Tom previously revealed he\u2019s planning a \u201cspecial\u201d Strictly comeback<\/a>, and Ian thinks we might just see that when the musician takes to the dance floor on Saturday, with the former Strictly pro predicting that Tom will be \u201cone of the best ballroom dancers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t wait to see Tom\u2019s ballroom,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to seeing it. We\u2019ve seen him in the Latin, but I think he\u2019s lovely and tall, he\u2019s slim and elegant. I think he\u2019s going to be one of the best ballroom dancers that we\u2019ve seen hopefully.\u201d<\/p>\n
