<\/p>
The cast of Netflix\u2019s smash-hit Korean survival drama Squid Game<\/a> have revealed an added layer of meaning behind the sinister \u2018Red Light, Green Light\u2019 doll.<\/p>\n In the series, the down-and-out contestants compete for a massive cash prize by taking part in playground games with a deadly twist. You can read our guide to the Squid Game rounds<\/a> here.<\/p>\n In the first round of games, we see the contestants compete in the game Red Light Green Light, similar to \u2018Statues\u2019 or \u2018Grandmother\u2019s Footsteps\u2019 in the UK.<\/p>\n A giant robot doll is the \u201cCurator<\/a>\u201c, standing at one end of the field. The other players must get to the doll\u2019s side of the field within a set time limit, but they can only move when the doll\u2019s back is turned. If they\u2019re caught moving when the doll turns around, they\u2019re out of the game \u2013 and in the case of Squid Game, they\u2019re shot.<\/p>\n Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, cast member Jung Ho-yeon (who plays Sae-byeok in the Squid Game cast<\/a>) confirmed that the robot doll was inspired by a character from school textbooks in Korea.<\/p>\n Read more about Squid Game:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhen we were at the school, there were characters\u2013one is a boy, and one is the girl.
