Longtime Doctor Who<\/a> fan Jacob Anderson finally nabbed his dream role for the upcoming series 13 (aka Doctor Who: Flux) \u2013 but it wasn\u2019t the first time the ex-Game of Thrones star made a bid to join the TARDIS team.<\/p>\n

Rather, in a new interview he\u2019s revealed that he first took a swing at the job back in 2009, when he auditioned to play a key part of Matt Smith\u2019s ensemble.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did actually audition for Doctor Who a long time ago,\u201d Anderson told Doctor Who Magazine. \u201cI auditioned for Rory.<\/p>

\u201cI was definitely too young, and Arthur Darvill is amazing. I\u2019ve worked with him since [on Broadchurch], and he\u2019s a lovely man. So I\u2019m glad that he did it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the end, of course, the role of nurse-turned-centurion Rory went to Darvill, who appeared regularly from 2010-2012 alongside Smith and onscreen partner Gillan, before the \u201cPonds\u201d departed in The Angels Take Manhattan.<\/p>\n

In the pantheon of classic Doctor Who casting What-Ifs it\u2019s an intriguing one \u2013 imagine if for all this time, we\u2019d had Anderson paired with Gillan\u2019s Amy Pond instead \u2013 but Anderson doesn\u2019t seem too disappointed to have missed out back then. Or at least, finally landing his dream job has rubbed out those bad memories.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the\u00a0one\u00a0thing\u00a0<\/em>I always wanted to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to think, \u2018I\u2019ll do anything, I\u2019ll wear prosthetics, whatever\u2026 I just want to be part of\u00a0Doctor\u00a0Who!\u2019\u00a0<\/em>It has such an ingrained place in my brain, and in my history, for a multitude of reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, at last, it also has an ingrained place on his IMDB page. Dreams do come true, kids.<\/p>\n
