By: Laura Denby<\/strong><\/p>\n Only Fools and Horses star Sue Holderness has described how her iconic\u00a0character Marlene had an influence on her new role.<\/p>\n Holderness plays Judith in The Madame Blanc Mysteries, a sun-soaked series about a string of antiques-related crimes in the South of France. Judith is a local lady in the village, who\u00a0thrives on gossip and is married to her devoted husband Jeremy, played by Robin Askwith.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/strong> about her role in the upcoming\u00a0Channel 5 comedy drama, the actress discusses the experience of reading both\u00a0scripts for the first time, where she fell in love with each of her characters\u00a0instantly.<\/p>\n \u201cMy reaction when I read the [Madame Blanc] script was very similar to the reaction when I\u00a0read the script for Only Fools And Horses \u2013 when I first saw the words for\u00a0Marlene on the page I thought I could just hear her,\u201d Holderness says.\u00a0\u201cI heard Marlene\u2019s voice and I knew this woman; and I thought if anybody\u00a0else plays this part I\u2019ll have to kill them because it\u2019s mine!<\/p> \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I felt exactly the same when I read Madame Blanc \u2013 I could just hear\u00a0her,\u201d she explains. \u201cPeople say \u2018Have you based her on anybody you\u00a0know?\u2019 but she\u2019s just in there, she is the ghastly snob that is within me, I\u00a0love her. She\u2019s simply appalling and good fun.\u201d<\/p>\n Holderness admits she could talk about her latest character all day, and\u00a0she explains that Judith thinks very highly of herself.\u00a0\u201cJudith loves Judith! There\u2019s no question, she thinks she\u2019s the bee\u2019s knees.\u00a0I think [she] believes that everybody loves her.\u201d<\/p>\n The actress adds, \u201cJudith and Jeremy have a very touchy-feely, very\u00a0passionate relationship; they adore each other but they also adore\u00a0themselves \u2013 and although Judith comes from quite humble stock, she is\u00a0now posher than the Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n The Madame Blanc Mysteries begins on Channel 5 this weekend.The series follows lead character Jean (Sally Lindsay) who jets off to\u00a0France to find answers after the sudden death of her husband.\u00a0Jean is drawn into the mysteries of Sainte Victoire from the minute she\u00a0arrives, and soon becomes acquainted with the local residents \u2013 including\u00a0the outspoken Judith.<\/p>\n The Madame Blanc Mysteries begins on Channel 5 this Saturday (16th October) at 9pm.
