It may only feel like yesterday since we had that big Wimbledon reveal of Jodie Whittaker as the next star of Doctor Who<\/a>, but her tenure is coming to a close and soon somebody else will soon be manning the TARDIS controls.<\/p>\n

Speaking to press including RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Whittaker addressed her impending exit from the BBC sci-fi series and what she thinks her replacement will be in for.<\/p>\n

On how it feels to leave the role of the Doctor behind, she said: \u201cWe\u2019ve been very present in it \u2013 but you have to honour the show, and honour everything. Me and Chris [Chibnall, showrunner]\u2026 There was this thing of like, \u2018We want to do three seasons.\u2019 But no one holds you to that. So there was always a conversation [about how long to stay]. It was always fluid.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut when you commit to that decision\u2026 you know, I can\u2019t imagine it being written\u2014 like, this Doctor is Chris\u2019s Doctor. For me, it\u2019s right [to leave now], but if everyone comes up to you forever, going, \u2018I\u2019m a Doctor Who fan\u2019 \u2013 then that\u2019s an absolute joy because it\u2019s been such a pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whittaker added, though, that she\u2019ll nonetheless be \u201cfilled with a lot of grief\u201d having left the series. \u201cEven thinking about it, it makes me upset,\u201d she said. \u201cBut this show needs new energy. The Doctor \u2013 the joy of this part is, you hand on your boots. And I don\u2019t know who, but whoever that is, what a thing to be able to go, \u2018You\u2019re going to have a right time!\u2019.\u201d<\/p>

Series 13 is called Doctor Who: Flux<\/a> and the six-episode run will begin on Halloween with further specials lined up for the current team, taking the show up to the regeneration and the return of RTD in 2023.<\/p>\n
