There\u2019s less than a week to go before Doctor Who<\/a>\u2018s 13th series premieres with a Halloween special aptly titled The Halloween Apocalypse<\/a>, and it\u2019s fair to say fans are getting excited.<\/p>\n

News of what Whovians can expect from Jodie Whittaker\u2019s Doctor Who swan song has been coming in fast, and includes updates on friends and foes. We know the Flux, the series\u2019 title, will be \u201cthe biggest nemesis the Doctor has ever faced\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and old monsters like the Weeping Angels, the Ood and the Cybermen will be making a comeback.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s also a whole array of new characters joining the Doctor too, with series 13\u2019s special serialised format meaning they could appear over multiple episodes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did love the stand-alone episodes but this way feels like I have longer to explore relationships with other characters,\u201d series star Mandip Gill said in a release. \u201cYaz is able to develop a much deeper relationship with them that doesn\u2019t end at the end of an episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn a personal level I have really enjoyed having such amazing guest leads around for a longer period of time and sharing this experience with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

And now, the BBC has released some first-look images of these new friends (and foes) in costume, along with some intriguing new details about what we can expect from them. But who are they and what do they want with Thirteenth Doctor?<\/p>\n

Read on to find out everything we know about Doctor Who series 13\u2019s new characters.<\/p>\n

Annabel Scholey plays Claire<\/h2>\n

The Split and Britannia star Annabel Scholey joins the cast as Claire. \u201cI am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the 13th series of Doctor Who,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was a lot of fun to film and I enjoyed every minute I spent with the amazing cast and crew.\u201d<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t know much about Claire yet, but it looks like she\u2019ll make her debut in the Halloween episode, and rumour has it that she was spotted filming with Weeping Angels during production.<\/p>

Craig Parkinson<\/h2>\n

We don\u2019t know his name yet, but Line of Duty\u2019s Craig Parkinson will play \u201cone of [the] greatest characters of the series\u201d, Doctor Who boss Matt Strevens revealed. \u00a0It also looks like he\u2019ll be sporting one of the greatest hairstyles in the series, judging by this first-look image.<\/p>\n

Gerald Kyd<\/h2>\n

Kyd (Cold Feet, Britannia) is no stranger to Doctor Who, having voiced\u00a0Martin Regan, Sir Robert Devere and Stephen Mulryne in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio story 1963: The Assassination Games and Lt Maurizio Savinio in Aquitaine.<\/p>\n

It looks like his character for the main Doctor Who story is brand new, however, sporting the uniform of a Crimean War soldier (and possibly pitted against the Sontarans).<\/p>\n

\u201cI absolutely adored being a part of such an iconic show,\u201d Kyd said. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing like it. The history, the stories, the utter devotion of the fanbase.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am honoured to now count Doctor Who as a credit. Oh, and the highlight amongst highlights was working with the wonderful, hilarious and irrepressible Jodie Whittaker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kevin McNally plays Jericho<\/h2>\n

Mandip Gill revealed the name of Kevin McNally\u2019s character is Jericho, who is in \u201cseveral episodes and so Yaz is able to develop a much deeper relationship with [him] that doesn\u2019t end at the end of an episode\u201d.<\/p>\n

Strevens added that Mandip Gill and John Bishop \u201cgot to spend the most time with him\u201d and teased \u201cthe whole dynamic between those three actors was taken to another level and that was a joy.\u201d Intriguingly, this suggests that the TARDIS team will be separated across the series \u2013 so will Whittaker\u2019s companions be abandoned?<\/p>\n

Nadia Albina<\/h2>\n

Nadia Albina\u2019s character\u2019s motives remain very much a mystery at this stage, but the first look image does seem to place her in present day Earth, so that\u2019s something. Rumour has it that her character may also have some romantic history with John Bishop\u2019s Dan, though that\u2019s not been confirmed at this stage.<\/p>\n

Blake Harrison<\/h2>\n

We don\u2019t know who Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison will be playing just yet, but judging by the first-look image of his character, it seems as though he\u2019s like he\u2019s facing some hard times \u2013 and he looks to be sharing plenty of scenes with Thaddea Graham\u2019s character.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to be a part of this huge show that has such a passionate fan base!\u201d Harrison previously said. \u201cI hope all the Doctor Who fans enjoy the new series and my role in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul Broughton and Sue Jenkins<\/h2>\n

Ever since the BBC released the first-look images, there has been much speculation that these two could be Dan\u2019s (John Bishop) parents Eileen and Neville.<\/p>\n

Separately, fans have also wondered whether this picture could be from the 80s, thus suggesting Dan might not be from the modern day. It\u2019s just a theory at this point \u2013 it\u2019s probably just an old car \u2013 but in Doctor Who, you can\u2019t rule anything out.<\/p>\n

Rochenda Sandall<\/h2>\n

Rochenda Sandall<\/span><\/figcaption><\/div>\n

Our first look at Rochenda Sandall\u2019s unnamed character reveals she looks like a human, instead of a monster as we had previously speculated. Better start looking for another candidate for the mysterious Ravagers\u2026<\/p>\n

Sandall has implied on Twitter that she\u2019ll appear in the first episode of the series, though given that characters are expected to appear in more than one episode this year it\u2019s not a big clue to what we might expect.<\/p>\n

Penelope Ann McGhie<\/h2>\n

McGhie is rumoured to be playing a character called Mrs Hayward, and looks to be from Earth\u2019s past (unless she\u2019s just a fan of vintage fashion).<\/p>\n

\u201cDoctor Who was a total joy to work on,\u201d McGhie said. \u201cEveryone was so welcoming and generous that I really felt part of the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving watched the show from behind the sofa over fifty years ago, and then again with our daughter when the series was revived, I can\u2019t believe how lucky I am to be part of the adventure!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sara Powell<\/h2>\n

Powell has been rumoured to be playing legendary Crimean war nurse Mary Seacole, one of this series\u2019 \u201ccelebrity historical\u201d figures, and this picture (along with other hints at a Crimean War storyline) certainly do seem to be nodding towards that possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cA role in Doctor Who is top of any actor\u2019s wish list,\u201d Powell said. \u201cTo say I leapt at the chance is something of an understatement. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with Jodie Whittaker \u2013 an iconic Doctor and actor \u2013 was also on my list. She was a legend.\u00a0 As were the cast and crew: indoors, outdoors, in winter, in Wales in the rain and mud, everyone wearing masks and being tested every five minutes: I loved stepping onto their ship and riding with them for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

Steve Oram<\/h2>\n

Oram might be playing real-life Liverpudlian eccentric Joseph Williamson, known for excavating a network of tunnels under his home city (which is also the setting for Doctor Who: Flux\u2019s first episode) alongside his business interests and philanthropy.<\/p>\n

It seems likely these tunnels could play a part in the Flux storyline, so watch out for Oram in earlier episodes of the series.<\/p>\n

Thaddea Graham<\/h2>\n

Graham\u2019s character remains a mystery, though the number of scenes she shares with Harrison\u2019s robed character and shots of her in red foliage from the trailers has had some fans wondering if she\u2019ll appear in flashbacks to the Doctor\u2019s home planet of Gallifrey. Certainly, she looks to be from a more futuristic age than many of this year\u2019s other guest stars.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole cast\/ crew welcomed me with open arms into the iconic Doctor Who family of which it is an absolute privilege to be part of,\u201d Graham said. \u201cIt\u2019s a real honour to share the magic of this universe with them and, of course, our wonderful audience this October!\u201d<\/p>\n
