Strictly Come Dancing\u2019s Rose Ayling-Ellis<\/a> has spoken about the accessibility challenges she\u2019s discovered whilst competing in the BBC One dance competition, revealing that there\u2019s a specific difficulty around ballroom routines for deaf contestants.<\/p>\n When asked whether she\u2019d encountered any unforeseen challenges during her Strictly Come Dancing<\/a> experience, Ayling-Ellis told RadioTimes.com<\/a> in an exclusive interview that there was just one hurdle she\u2019d come across so far.<\/p>\n \u201cThe really good thing about Strictly is that we planned all of this right before I started it to make sure none of this happened. So I have deaf awareness training, every single person had deaf awareness training, I have an interpreter with me, everything is set up.<\/p>\n \u201cThe one thing that I didn\u2019t think of is for ballroom \u2013 I can\u2019t lipread! I didn\u2019t think of that one.\u201d<\/p> The EastEnders star explained that when in ballroom hold, she\u2019s facing away from her professional partner Giovanni Pernice<\/a> and so cannot lipread, with Pernice adding: \u201cBecause she\u2019s looking the other way when we\u2019re doing ballroom.\u201d<\/p>\n Ayling-Ellis continued: \u201cAnd he keeps giving me instructions and I\u2019m like, \u2018What?\u2019 and he\u2019s like, \u2018Stay in your position!\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a bigger challenge for Giovanni because he has to stop, explain, do it again, stop, explain, do it again.
