James\u2019 bestselling Inspector Dalgliesh Mysteries books.<\/p>\n<p>Set in the mid 1970s, Carvel (<a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/news\/tv\/2020-10-15\/the-sister-neil-cross-itv-drama\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener noopener noreferrer\" noreferrer=\"\">The Sister<\/a>) will be playing the policeman and published poet, Adam Dalgliesh, while the series is set against the picturesque backdrop of the English countryside.<\/p>\n<p>Carvel, who has some form in playing mysterious characters, will portray a man with hidden depths and a broken heart.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s everything you need to know about Dalgliesh.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Dalgliesh release date<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dalgliesh will premiere on <strong>Thursday November 4th at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The new series will consist of three two-part films, adapting three of P.D. James\u2019 Inspector Dalgliesh Mysteries tales.<\/p>\n<p>Production began in Northern Ireland in December 2020.<\/p> <p>Catherine Mackin, Managing Director, Acorn Media Enterprises, said: \u201cAcorn Media Enterprises is thrilled to work with Channel 5, New Pictures, and all3media international to commission new adaptations of P. D. James beloved Dalgliesh Mysteries. Acorn TV subscribers around the world are sure to love these contemporary adaptations starring Bertie Carvel as the iconic detective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sebastian Cardwell, Channel 5 Deputy Director of Programmes, said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be working alongside Acorn TV , All 3 Media &amp; New Pictures on our next drama commission. P.D. James was one of Britain\u2019s great crime writers and we\u2019re incredibly excited to be creating new adaptations of her work.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Dalgliesh cast<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Doctor Foster star Bertie Carvel will play the title role, while Jeremy Irvine plays his colleague Charles Masterson.<\/p>\n<p>Other cast members will include Mirren Mack, Natasha Little, Paul Mallon, and Siobh\u00e1n Cullen.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is Dalgliesh about?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Beginning in the mid 1970s in England, the series follows Inspector Adam Dalgliesh, a reserved, enigmatic detective and widower who is still grieving his wife\u2019s death, and struggles to form new romantic attachments as a result.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Channel 5 synopsis, the series \u201c<span lang=\"&quot;en-GB&quot;\">follows Dalgliesh\u2019s career to present day as he solves unusual murders and reveals buried secrets,\u201d while each of the three murder mysteries \u201cwill offer its own unique setting and extraordinary cast\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The three stories to be adapted are \u201cShroud for a Nightingale,\u201d \u201cThe Black Tower,\u201d and \u201cA Taste for Death\u201d. The first, Shroud for a Nightingale, was published in 1971.<\/p>\n<p>In Shroud for a Nightingale, the story focuses on the young women of Nightingale House, where they learn to nurse the sick.
