For quite some time, Doctor Who<\/a> fans have wondered\u2026 what\u2019s the deal with the Doctor and Yaz? Ever since the first appearances of Jodie Whittaker\u2019s Time Lord and her human companion, viewers have questioned if the pair could be more than friends, following in the footsteps of other series romances like the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Rose (Billie Piper).<\/p>\n

Certainly, Yaz seems to dote on the Doctor \u2013 in her last appearance, when abandoned by her friend, she\u2019d taken to sleeping in a spare TARDIS \u2013 so when we caught up with actor Mandip Gill recently, we asked whether romance could still bloom between their characters.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously I wouldn\u2019t say [if it was happening],\u201d Gill told Radio Times<\/strong> as part of a wider series 13 interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it could do. Because, you know, they have spent so much time together. That\u2019s what happens to people naturally.\u201d<\/p>

However, Gill also cautioned that fans don\u2019t buy a hat for Yaz and the Doctor\u2019s wedding just<\/em> yet, noting that the duo\u2019s closeness doesn\u2019t necessarily mean they\u2019d become involved romantically.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the same time, it could also head down the route of like it being platonic, because two people are allowed to travel together and not have that relationship,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have asked about it, people have wanted it. Me and Jodes have a lovely relationship as people, as actors, and our characters have a really, really nice relationship. And I think it\u2019s been written very naturally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, while she wouldn\u2019t be drawn on specific story points for this series or the upcoming collection of 2022 specials (which will mark Whittaker\u2019s final stories), the actor teased that Yaz and the Doctor\u2019s relationship would develop one way or another in the new episodes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to think where it heads people [will] have gone \u2018Yeah, that\u2019s what it\u2019s supposed to be,\u2019\u201d she told us.<\/p>\n

In other words, \u201cThasmin\u201d (Thirteen\/Yasmin) fans will have a lot to hope for \u2013 or worry about \u2013 as Doctor Who: Flux kicks off this weekend.<\/p>\n
