<\/p>
HBO has announced a brand new limited series about poisoned KBG agent Alexander Litvinenko, played by Benedict Cumberbatch \u2013 just one month after ITV cast\u00a0David Tennant as Litvinenko<\/a> in a separate series.<\/p>\n Written by David Scarpa, the newly announced HBO drama will be titled Londongrad, and will tell the story of\u00a0the former KBG officer\u2019s death from polonium poisoning in 2006.<\/p>\n Cumberbatch, who\u2019s best known internationally for the BBC\u2019s Sherlock and for playing Doctor Strange in the Marvel film franchise, will executive produce alongside Scarpa.<\/p>\n The ITV drama series, Litvinenko,\u00a0will follow Scotland Yard Officers over the course of a decade as they attempt to prove who was responsible for the death of the former Russian Federal Security Services officer.<\/p>\n That series, written by Lupin<\/a>\u2018s George Kay and announced in September, will also look at Alexander\u2019s widow Marina (played by The Deuce\u2019s Margarita Levieva), who \u201cfought tirelessly to persuade the British Government to publicly name her husband\u2019s killers and acknowledge the role of the Russian State in his murder\u201d.<\/p> In a statement last month, writer Kay said: \u201cIn late 2006, Alexander Litvinenko was a living witness to his own murder. He spent his dying days entrusting the Metropolitan Police with the details of what happened to him.<\/p>\n \u201cIt took those police and his remarkable widow Marina Litvinenko a decade to have those claims ratified.
