Star Wars fans are still reeling from the release of The Rise of Skywalker, but it turns out the hugely divisive ninth episode of the intergalactic saga could have been very different.<\/p>\n
Doctor Who actor Matt Smith recently revealed that he was \u201cclose\u201d to being cast in the film, and that the role he was touted for would\u2019ve marked \u201ca big shift in the history of the franchise\u201d.<\/p>\n
Intriguing, to say the least.<\/p>\n
The actor, who is set to star in upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon<\/a>, discussed the role on the\u00a0Happy Sad Confused<\/a> podcast, telling host Josh Horowitz that \u201cwe were close to me being in it but then it just never quite happened\u201d.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cI think the thing they were thinking of me for\u2026 eventually the part became obsolete and they didn\u2019t need me so I never got to be in Star Wars. There we are.\u201d<\/p> Of course, the question on everyone\u2019s mind is exactly what that thing Star Wars bosses were thinking of him for is.<\/p>\n \u201cWas this Palpatine\u2019s son?\u201d Horowitz asked.<\/p>\n To which Smith replied: \u201cI could not possibly say, I could not possibly say.\u201d<\/p>\n Though, judging by his expression in the video below, it looks likely.<\/p>\n Remember those reports that Matt Smith was going to be in THE RISE OF SKYWALKER? He told me his role was a big deal, representing \u201ca big shift in the history of the [STAR WARS] franchise.\u201d
