<\/p>
All eyes might currently be on Doctor Who: Flux<\/a>, but with Jodie Whittaker set to leave the TARDIS behind following a trio of specials in 2022 there\u2019s been no shortage of speculation about who will be the next star to play the iconic Time Lord.<\/p>\n One of the current favourites for the job is Lydia West \u2013 who leads the odds just ahead of her It\u2019s A Sin co-star Olly Alexander \u2013 and in a recent interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a>, we asked her what she thought about the rumours.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean the fact I\u2019ve been named as one of the favourites is quite special,\u201d she answered. \u201cSo I mean, it would be an honour to be the Doctor. I\u2019m glad people think I could do it!\u201d<\/p>\n And asked if there was any specific actor she\u2019d like to see inherit the sonic screwdriver if it wasn\u2019t to be her, she added, \u201cOh I don\u2019t want to say any names. There\u2019s too many actors that I admire out of there who could play it so brilliantly. I think whoever is awarded the role will bring their own unique take to it \u2013 and yeah, I\u2019m excited to see!\u201d<\/p>\n West has worked with returning showrunner Russell T Davies on two separate occasions \u2013 in both the aforementioned It\u2019s A Sin and his 2019 drama Years and Years \u2013 so would certainly make sense as a possible candidate for the Fourteenth Doctor.<\/p> She currently has a number of future projects in the pipeline, including another series that has some major Doctor Who connections in Inside Man<\/a> \u2013 an upcoming four-parter created and written by Steven Moffat and also starring David Tennant.<\/p>\n This week, she\u2019s starring as one of the celebrity sitters on Portrait Artist of the Year \u2013 and says it will be the first time she\u2019s ever had her portrait drawn.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I was approached to do it and I\u2019ve seen the show a couple of times, and I was really interested in it,\u201d she said when asked why she wanted to take part. \u201cI think it\u2019s just a great thing to kind of introduce new artists to the world and support young artists and very established artists too.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve never had my portrait drawn, so I was up for the challenge. I didn\u2019t really know what it would entail or what to make of it until I got there.
