As fans were promised way back in March, Roblox now has voice chat thanks to a new feature dubbed Spatial Voice. But how does it work, and is it safe? Those are the questions you might be asking yourself today, and we\u2019re going to try and answer them.<\/p>\n
Spatial Voice is active in Roblox now, and players who have verified that they are over 13 years of age will be able to turn this Roblox voice chat feature on or off (more on that later).<\/p>\n

\u201cSpatial Voice is a feature that allows users to engage in voice chat within spatial voice experiences on Roblox,\u201d the game\u2019s official website<\/a> has confirmed. Basically, then, it\u2019s a way for players whose on-screen avatars are nearby to each other to speak using their real-life voices in the game.<\/p>\n \u201cThis feature is available for all users that are age verified 13 and older, the explanatory webpage adds. \u201c13+ age verified users can opt-in to use this feature by visiting their Settings page. They will then be able to use Spatial Voice Chat in any Roblox experience that supports it.\u201d<\/p>\n The Roblox voice chat release date turned out to be Tuesday 9th November 2021<\/strong>, with the developers adding the new Spatial Voice feature on that very day. If you boot up a Roblox experience that supports Spatial Voice, then, you should be able to try it out today!<\/p>\n At a Roblox Investor Day presentation<\/a> back in March, Roblox\u2019s Vice President of Engineering, Adam Miller, said this: \u201cText chat is the core of Roblox communication today. In the future, we expect to open up communication through safe voice chat.\u201d And now that day has come!<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the Roblox Investor Day presentation, the game\u2019s developers mentioned that 56% of Roblox\u2019s daily users are under the age of 13. And so, it\u2019s easy to see why some people are questioning whether Roblox voice chat will be safe. Lots of parents allow their kids to play on Roblox, and, understandably, they\u2019ll want to be sure that their children are protected from any adult language and abusive content.<\/p>\n Roblox\u2019s Adam Miller promised, in the aforementioned presentation, that this will be a \u201csafe voice chat.\u201d The game\u2019s developers have already noted that safety is a key concern here.<\/p>\n \u201cSafety is paramount,\u201d Miller stated at a slightly earlier point in the presentation. \u201cWe filter all text communications to block inappropriate content, including profanity and personal information. The goal is to enable safe and positive communication. Communicating with friends is key to our social experience. When users communicate, they engage more, play together more, and even make more purchases.\u201d<\/p>\n As we\u2019ve learned today, the Roblox voice chat feature will only be available to players who have verified their age as being 13 or above, and you will be able to turn the feature off. More on that below!<\/p>\n If you want to turn Roblox voice chat on to see what it\u2019s like, go to Account Settings and click into the Privacy Tab, where you should see a Spatial Voice setting that you can toggle either on or off. Set it to on and you\u2019ll soon see\/hear what the fuss is about.<\/p>\n If you want to turn Roblox voice chat off in Roblox, head to Account Settings and the Privacy Tab and then set the Spatial Voice setting into the off position. Simples!<\/p>\n Or you could mute anybody that you don\u2019t want to hear from \u2013 to silence any other player, simply click on the microphone symbol above their avatar\u2019s head.
