<\/p>
Benedict Cumberbatch has said he\u2019d \u201cnever say never\u201d to reprising his title role on BBC One\u2019s Sherlock<\/a>, but believes the drama has \u201chad its moment for now\u201d.<\/p>\n The actor made the comments during a recent interview with\u00a0Esquire<\/a>, when he initially declined to be \u201cdrawn into\u201d a conversation about Sherlock, but later elaborated.<\/p>\n \u201cIt wouldn\u2019t be fair on anyone else involved \u2013 I\u2019m not going to be drawn into that. No, no, no,\u201d he initially said.<\/p>\n However, he later added: \u201cOh look, I still say never say never. You know, I really like that character\u2026 it\u2019s just, the circumstances need to be right and I think maybe it\u2019s too soon now to see it have another life. I think, wonderful as it is, it\u2019s had its moment for now. But that\u2019s not to say it wouldn\u2019t have another iteration in the future.\u201d<\/p> In the same interview, Mark Gatiss (Sherlock\u2019s co-creator, who also starred in the series) revealed how the casting of Cumberbatch in the BBC series was \u201cthe perfect match of actor and part\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cHaving taken the plunge on a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, everything about Benedict, his age, his look, his \u2018otherness\u2019 marked him out. We drew up a huge list of possible Sherlocks but, in the end, we saw no-one but him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Asked about how Cumberbatch landed the part, he continued: \u201cSteven Moffat and Sue Vertue [co-creator and producer respectively] had just watched Atonement when I texted saying \u2018What about Benedict Cumberbatch?\u2019 I\u2019d worked with Ben on Starter for 10 and knew him a little bit.
