Chris Chibnall has given further details about next year\u2019s Doctor Who<\/a> specials, revealing that the final standalone episode starring Jodie Whittaker has the working title of \u201cthe Centenary Special\u201d.<\/p>\n He also revealed that post-production work on Whittaker\u2019s final regeneration episode \u2013 which coincides with the 100-year anniversary of the BBC \u2013 will continue well into 2022.<\/p>\n Chibnall will leave the BBC sci-fi series when Whittaker hands over the keys to the TARDIS next year, and he\u2019ll be replaced by Russell T Davies as Doctor Who showrunner<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a great feeling when you finish everything in studio,\u201d he told Doctor Who Magazine<\/a>.\u201cBut in some ways, things actually get busier from that point, because all the stuff in post-production has been waiting for you. It\u2019s like another show on top of the first show you did.<\/p>\n \u201cWe won\u2019t actually be finished until we picturelock what we\u2019re currently calling the Centenary Special,\u201d he added, revealing that scoring and CG work on Whittaker\u2019s last episode had yet to be completed.<\/p>\n Chibnall recently revealed that the last scene Jodie Whittaker shot for Doctor Who was the Thirteenth Doctor\u2019s regeneration scene<\/a>, marking her official exit from the show.<\/p> Whittaker announced in July that she would be leaving Doctor Who after the centenary special alongside outgoing showrunner Chibnall, although the Broadchurch star recently told Radio Times magazine<\/strong> that she considered going back on her exit plan<\/a> whilst filming the new episodes.<\/p>\n \u201cSometimes it was like\u2026 \u2018Are we sticking to this decision?\u2019 There\u2019s part of me that could absolutely say, \u2018No, let\u2019s keep going! Let\u2019s go back on it!\u2019 But to give the fans the level that they deserve, there has to be some sacrifice.
