<\/p>
Sue Jenkins has praised current Doctor Who<\/a>\u00a0lead Jodie Whittaker for \u201cpaving the way\u201d for greater diversity when it comes to casting the Fourteenth Doctor.<\/p>\n Speaking on Morning Live on Friday 12th November, the actor opened up about her role as John Bishop\u2019s on-screen mum in the BBC One sci-fi series.<\/p>\n \u201cI did age up a little bit [for the role], but to be honest with you, I was just so delighted to be a part of Doctor Who, [and] then to know I was working with John Bishop\u2026 was just brilliant,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had such a lovely time [filming]. We just clicked as a family straight away.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked about Whittaker\u2019s upcoming departure from the series, Jenkins said that the part was \u201copen to everyone now\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cTo be honest, Jodie\u2019s shown us that as long as you\u2019re a wonderfully talented actor with lots of stamina, because you\u2019re in virtually every scene and night shoots and everything else, it\u2019s open to everyone now,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be presumptuous enough to say who that should be\u2026 but I just think now it\u2019s open, thanks to Jodie paving the way with great imagination to take it into another dimension. Who knows.\u201d<\/p> Whittaker recently told Radio Times magazine<\/strong> that she considered going back on her exit plan<\/a> whilst filming the new episodes.<\/p>\n \u201cSometimes it was like\u2026 \u2018Are we sticking to this decision?\u2019 There\u2019s part of me that could absolutely say, \u2018No, let\u2019s keep going! Let\u2019s go back on it!\u2019 But to give the fans the level that they deserve, there has to be some sacrifice.
