<\/p>
TV presenter and journalist Richard Madeley<\/a> will make his I\u2019m A Celebrity 2021<\/a> debut this Sunday when the new series airs.<\/p>\n Alongside the rest of the I\u2019m A Celebrity 2021 line-up <\/a>\u2013 which includes Naughty Boy<\/a>, Snoochie Shy<\/a>, Arlene Phillips<\/a> and Frankie Bridge<\/a> \u2013 Madeley will take on the infamous Bushtucker Trials at Gwrych Castle, where I\u2019m A Celebrity is filmed<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, the 65-year-old almost didn\u2019t appear on the ITV series this year.<\/p>\n Speaking to press including RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Richard revealed he almost turned down appearing on I\u2019m A Celebrity as he usually prefers to watch the show from home.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cITV call me and they say will I do it, and I always say \u2018Thanks, but no thanks\u2019 because I love watching it. It\u2019s a great show and I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever missed a series. But, I\u2019ve always said to them, \u2018I prefer to watch it than do it. Thanks very much.\u2019 And it goes away again.\u201d<\/p>\n This year, however, Richard thought it would be interesting to see what goes on from inside the castle.<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cThis year they phone up and I was about to use the same reply I\u2019ve always given them and it\u2019s funny because a little lightbulb went on and I thought, hang on, let\u2019s think about this, because what\u2019s happened in the last 21 years since this thing started is that it\u2019s become part of the social fabric of the UK, isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/p> Speaking of how the show has transformed over the years, he added: \u201cIt\u2019s not just a television show, but it\u2019s a bit more and it\u2019s become a big event every year, as far as television goes. A lot of people talk about it, people have a lot of expectations for it, and they get quite excited about it. And the media gets quite worked up about it. So I kind of put my journalist hat on \u2013 and that\u2019s fundamentally what I am. That\u2019s how I started, as a reporter.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really quite curious to see what this show\u2019s like from the inside, rather than watching it from the outside and picking up this gauntlet from friends who\u2019ve done it. My son-in-law, James Haskell, did it a few years ago, so I know quite a lot about the show, but not really what it\u2019s like to actually do it and to be in there with a bunch of strangers and not knowing what each day is going to bring. It suddenly occurred to me that maybe I\u2019d quite enjoy it and it will be something to write about and talk about when I ultimately come out!\u201d<\/p>\n While Richard is looking forward to taking on the castle, we can confirm that viewers won\u2019t be seeing his wife Judy Finnigan on the show anytime soon.<\/p>\n \u201cI went and saw Judy, and I said they asked me to do it again and I hadn\u2019t said no,\u201d he added. \u201cShe didn\u2019t exactly do a kind of backhand springs of delight. But she did say, \u2018Well, you know what, I can see your point. I wouldn\u2019t dream of doing it, but I can see why you probably would get quite a kick out of it!\u201d<\/p>\n I\u2019m a Celebrity returns to ITV on 21st November.
