Bertie Carvel has said that he\u2019s \u201cexcited to know what will happen\u201d if his new Channel 5 detective drama, Dalgliesh<\/a>, is renewed for a second series.<\/p>\n

The Channel 5 and Acorn series is based on PD James\u2019 bestselling Inspector Dalgliesh books, which follow the policeman and published poet Adam Dalgliesh (Carvel).<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press, the Doctor Foster actor revealed that he had his fingers crossed for a series two set in the 1980s, jumping forward in time from the \u201970s-set first season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited to know what will happen if we get to do more, because as you know \u2013 I mean, I think one thing that\u2019s so interesting about the novels is that she\u2019s a brilliant observer, PD James, of social reality and social detail, and sets the novels very much in their time, obviously. So there\u2019s been some amount of adaptation to adjust those in these three films.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cIf we get to do more, I love the idea that maybe series two is set in the mid-\u201980s. And series three will be set in the mid-\u201990s. But I don\u2019t know what the writers are going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
