The fate of one of the lead characters in Eternals<\/a> has been confirmed.<\/p>\n

Speaking to CBR.com<\/span><\/a>, screenwriter Kaz Firpo\u00a0addressed the ending for the character Ikaris, played by Bodyguard star Richard Madden.<\/p>\n

The climax of Eternals saw Ikaris fly into space and into the sun, appearing to perish in the star after choosing to end his own life.<\/p>\n

However, some fans have speculated that the character could return.<\/p>\n

Yet, Firpo has confirmed that Ikaris is indeed dead.<\/p>\n

The screenwriter revealed: \u201cFor what it\u2019s worth\u2026 yeah, it was always that. He can\u2019t bear to face his family after what he\u2019s done, which he realizes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Firpo confirmed that the character was so full of regret for how he had lived his entire life that he could no longer face his family and could no longer live his life.<\/p>\n

However, this was not always the planned ending for Ikaris.<\/p>

\u201cIt began as an exile that I think, throughout the course of the filmmaking, really became something that needed to be definitive,\u201d added Firpo.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really is a moment of saying, \u2018It\u2019s sacrifice.\u2019 It\u2019s sort of saying, \u2018I can\u2019t serve the Eternals. If I can\u2019t serve the Celestials, and I can\u2019t be with my family, then I choose this third option,\u2019 which \u2014 for him \u2014 really is oblivion. So yeah, he dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Addressing his character\u2019s fate, Richard Madden shared his own thoughts with the Los Angeles Times.<\/a><\/p>\n

Madden commented: \u00a0\u201cI think it was the only way. It was his release and escape from responsibility, finally, after carrying all this weight for all this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like it was the most just way to end his story because I think he\u2019s heartbroken from letting down the people closest to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first time he\u2019s accepted that he\u2019s got a heart and has done the wrong thing so he punishes himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
