Now, this thriller looks suitably twisted!<\/p>\n

March 2021 saw the announcement of an upcoming psychological four-part thriller, courtesy of BBC and HBO Max: The Girl Before.<\/p>\n

Based on JP Delaney\u2019s 2018 bestseller of the same name<\/a>, it is a twist-filled limited series starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and David Oyelowo, that has a woman questioning whether living in an impressive building with restrictive rules is worth the price \u2013 especially after finding out more about the mysterious events that happened prior to her arrival.<\/p>\n

The official plot synopsis from the BBC reads: \u201cThe Girl Before tells the story of Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who gets the chance to move into a beautiful, ultra-minimalist house designed by an enigmatic architect (David Oyelowo).<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s just one catch: the occupants must abide by his list of exacting rules. Jane starts to feel the house changing her in unexpected ways, but when she makes the shocking discovery about her predecessor, Emma (Jessica Plummer), she\u2019s forced to confront unnerving similarities. As the two women\u2019s timelines interweave, Jane begins to question if her fate will be the same as the girl before\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The Girl Before release date<\/h2>\n

The Girl Before premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday, Decmeber 19, 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The limited drama series consists of four hour-long episodes and will air on consecutive nights.<\/p>\n

The final episode will therefore be broadcast on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The entire series will be available on BBC iPlayer following the broadcast of each episode.<\/p>\n

So far, there\u2019s an impressive cast list attached to the project, headed up by Gugu-Mbatha Raw and David Oyelowo.<\/p>\n

Mbatha-Raw, known for her performances in films such as A Wrinkle In Time, Misbehaviour, Belle and Beyond The Lights, will play Jane while Emmy nominee Oyelowo will take the role of architect Edward.<\/p>\n

On her involvement in the show, Mbatha-Raw says: \u201cI\u2019m so excited to work with this amazing team on such a compelling story in my debut role as actor\/producer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, Oyelowo is equally looking forward to working on The Girl Before, explaining: \u201cThis story is mind-bending in its clever construction and intricacy. I can\u2019t wait to see it, let alone be in it. Plus, I\u2019d go anywhere to work with my friend Gugu again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The most recent addition to the cast is Jessica Plummer, who\u2019ll star as Emma \u2013 the titular \u2018girl before\u2019. Fresh from EastEnders and I\u2019m A Celebrity\u2026Get Me Out Of Here, Plummer will portray the fun-loving and confident character, who\u2019s stuck working at an unfulfilling marketing job, and is less than satisfied with her partner.<\/p>\n

Her tagline states: \u201cFor her, One Folgate Street\u2019s stone walls represent security, safety and renewal. But Emma is hiding a dark secret and, living in the pressure cooker that is One Folgate Street, the truth will out in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fellow EastEnders<\/a> alum Ben Hardy has also signed onto the project to play Emma\u2019s partner, Simon. From what we know so far, he\u2019s besotted with Emma and counts himself lucky to have her. Unfortunately, he worries he\u2019s not enough for her, and living in the minimalist haven of One Folgate Street heightens his insecurities even more.<\/p>\n
