The TV adaptation of Anthony Horowitz\u2019s Alex Rider books is returning this December for a second season.<\/p>\n

Filming took place in Bristol earlier this year, beginning later than had originally been planned as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The spy drama was a hit with viewers when it debuted, with Otto Farrant playing the eponymous teenage spy drawn back into the world of espionage for season two.<\/p>\n

Season two, based on the fourth book Eagle Strike, will also feature brand new cast members, including Toby Stephens (Die Another Day), Rakie Ayola (Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and new Bridgerton<\/a> star Charithra Chandran.<\/p>\n

And with several more books in Horowitz\u2019s hit series of novels, there\u2019s certainly a lot more story still to tell.<\/p>\n

Alex Rider season 2 release date<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The second season of Alex Rider\u00a0<\/span>premieres 3rd December 2021 exclusively on <\/strong><\/span>IMDb TV<\/strong> in the US and UK<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anthony Horowitz previously told\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/a> ahead of season one that he envisaged the series could \u201crun and run\u201d into further future seasons, stating: \u201cDon\u2019t forget that there are 12 more books \u2013 if it works it\u2019s a TV show that can run and run until poor Otto will be in his late 40s!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The show follows Alex Rider, a teenage spy who was first recruited after his uncle \u2013 who he previously thought was a banker \u2013 died and was revealed to be a British secret agent.<\/p>\n

The second season will follow the events of Horowitz\u2019s fourth Alex Rider novel, Eagle Strike. The first season was based on the second book, Point Blanc \u2013 the first book, Stormbreaker, was previously made into a film starring Alex Pettyfer.<\/p>\n

While the book Point Blanc is set in a French Alps boarding school for the offspring of billionaires, Eagle Strike is set in several other international locations, including the south of France and Amsterdam.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/strong>, Horowitz said that he thought television was a better format for the books than film, enabling the show\u2019s creators to write \u201ca coming-of-age story\u201d with more focus on Alex himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s great about the series and having eight parts on TV and being able to do this, is that we\u2019ve turned it far more into a coming-of-age story and it\u2019s much less sort of action adventure,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wrote that book [Point Blanc] a really long time ago and it was a real kids action book \u2013 what I think is great is that this treatment is much more considered, more serious, [there are] more rites of passage, and it all begins here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
