<\/p>
Radio presenter Steve Allen has been cleared of the Ofcom complaints received following a comment he made about Tilly Ramsay<\/a>\u00a0during his LBC show.<\/p>\n In total, 860 complaints were filed regarding this particular remark, which occurred during a discussion of Strictly Come Dancing<\/a>, as Allen described the children\u2019s television host and social media star as a \u201cchubby little thing\u201d.<\/p>\n Many listeners took to social media to complain that the statement was highly inappropriate, with Ramsay herself responding shortly after, saying that Allen\u2019s words were a \u201cstep too far\u201d.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, Ofcom has decided not to uphold the complaints against Allen, but did say in a statement that it has \u201cprovided guidance to LBC to take greater care in future\u201d.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the regulator said: \u201cGiven societal concerns about body image pressures on young people, the presenter\u2019s criticism of a young woman\u2019s appearance could have led to an adverse effect on wellbeing and mental health.<\/p>\n \u201cBut given the brevity of the comments and the likely audience\u2019s expectations of this provocative presenter and programme, we will not be pursuing further.\u201d<\/p> When the comment was first broadcast on Monday 18th October, Ramsay put out a statement via her personal Instagram<\/a> account.<\/p>\n \u201cSteve, please feel free [to] voice your opinions, however I draw the line at commenting on my appearance,\u201d it read. \u201cIt\u2019s such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative.<\/p>\n \u201c\u200b\u200bThis isn\u2019t the first and definitely won\u2019t be the last comment made about my appearance and I accept that and I\u2019m learning to accept myself.\u201d<\/p>\n Ramsay added: \u201cBut please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19\u2026 I won\u2019t tolerate people that think it\u2019s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone\u2019s weight and appearance.\u201d<\/p>\n It was later widely reported that Allen had contacted Ramsay privately to apologise for his remark.<\/p>\n Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One at 7:05pm on Saturday 11th December.
