Eagle-eyed fans might have noticed the Scouse actor (out of his Karvanista make-up) playing a friend of new companion Dan (John Bishop) during the latter\u2019s short introductory teaser released in January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was Chris [Chibnall\u2019s] idea as a nice, little Easter egg, to have me appear and sort of introduce John\u2019s character,\u201d Els told <a href=\"&quot;http:\/\/RadioTimes.com&quot;\">RadioTimes.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the things that are read out, you know, about the lucky number, and this, and the letter \u2018D\u2019 as in Doctor and Dan \u2013 I loved it. And I think it was just basically good fortune that I\u2019m actually from Liverpool, and so is John.\u201d<\/p> <p>However, while fans were 10 months away from seeing Karvanista on screen, the Who production team did include a little clue about Els\u2019 main role in the series \u2013 though so far, nobody has noticed the Easter egg.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if you noticed, but the costume that I\u2019m wearing \u2013 I wear like a blue-checked shirt, and the colours in the shirt were exactly the same as Karvanista\u2019s armour,\u201d Els revealed.<\/p>\n<iframe title=\"&quot;Welcome\" to=\"\" the=\"\" tardis=\"\" introducing=\"\" john=\"\" bishop=\"\" as=\"\" who=\"\" bbc=\"\" width=\"&quot;200&quot;\" height=\"&quot;113&quot;\" src=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eHSob62p17Q?feature=oembed&quot;\" frameborder=\"&quot;0&quot;\" allow=\"&quot;accelerometer;\" autoplay=\"\" clipboard-write=\"\" encrypted-media=\"\" gyroscope=\"\" picture-in-picture=\"\" allowfullscreen=\"\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThat was the genius of [costume designer] Ray Holman. Yeah, there were little hints to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a way, then, Karvanista was watching over Dan for nearly a year longer than we thought.
